Actually, this seems to be somewhat based/inspired on the old "cult?" classic Forever Knight. (vampire detective, human coroner as romantic interest)
Moonlight has a vampire private investigator with a human (internet) journalist.
I highly recommend Forever Knight (if you manage to find it, it's a older 80's series)
So far Moonlight shows potential, I really think the first ep. could have been spread out over 2 ep's. However despite a tad rushed (characters was introduced a bit too fast) it does set things up all in one single ep, allowing us to hit the ground running from ep2 really.
I suspect that ep1 was the actual pilot, if that is the case then I understand why the used it as is, as the production quality is pretty darn good.
I only wish that the local "prince" was a bit older, he seemed a bit too young and whiney to me, but maybe that is intentional.
The main character is also a tad young for a vampire (compared to Forever Knight at least) but interesting.
I like the vampire myths tweaks, able to walk in sunlight but only for short periods and in great discomfort, should make for less restrictive settings/stories yet still provide "situations".
(in Forever Knight the poor guy started smoking in the sunlight, the "hunger" was a huge focus in that)
We'll see what what they do with this series, but so far...I'm liking it.
