My Insanity Has Risen to a Whole New Level...

Postby Innari » Fri Sep 14, 2007 7:07 pm

You know you spend too much time in your music collection when the following happens:

You have the sudden urge to listen to 1 particular song you haven't heard in ages, but you're at work. So you IM your boyfriend/girlfriend and send them the exact path, including file name of a song out of a collection of over twenty thousand tracks...so he can find it and send it to you. And get the path and name exactly right, down to the case of the file name.

I am, in fact, pathetic. >.>

Actually that is quite common among DJ's especially when they have such large collections as we do.. I can find/name pretty much any track on my hard drives due to its genre, decade, album/sngle. And having all my mp3's labelled uniformly makes it so much easier to file stuff. Its all about how ya file it in the 1st place ;)
For that matter I can pretty much put my hands on any one of my 12k vinyl singles too.. they are catalogued in bookcases, chronologically and by artist.

Now when you remember the lines of an obscure song from 12 years ago, but not the title or artist.. that's when the searching fun begins!! :D

No, insanity is when they decide to make a movie out of a series of books published 30ish years ago (Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper) you can remember the words to both poems used in the books. Though you have not seen the books since graduating high school 20+ years ago.

Or likewise recite the Poem from Lord of the Rings Verbatim from Memory from reading the books 5+ years before.

Hmmm my music is on the shelf alphabetically by artist name and then album name. I'm liking the chronological, though... It may be time for reorganizing. I love sitting on the floor with piles of discs around me. ^.^ ((I'm not joking... I really do.))

I also categorize on my computer by genre. Although one folder is label "Punk & Slight Emo" and another is "Emo Incredibly So." That's where all the recent punk goes. ppffft.
If you can read this, Traanse trapped me in her signature. She hasn't fed me in days! Hello?Image

My music-collection is ordered in a Band - Album - Song-kind of way. Currently running at 167gb/36.6k songs. Hell and mayhem editing ID3-tags to make them conform to my archiving-style.

Must....have....more....MUSIC! (still have wayyy too much free space on my drives.)

let's see.. two drives..

A-L & M-Z

each split into blocks of three ABC , DEF etc

split again into A, B, C

then split by artist

then by Album..

each file in each album should be labeled "track - artist - trackname" (since that was the way that fitted mostly)

I have some singles in my basement. Found one the other day copyright on it 1971 Jack and the Beanstalk - my sister wrote her name on it, but posession is 9/10s of the law right? And I've had that record for roughly 30 years now so...
