Better Sci Fi than Firefly

Talk about anything!

Well, I still dont think B5 is better sci-fi either. Makeup, prosthetics and randomly generated race names do not equate to "better" sci-fi, it only helps to shove it into the genre. Take off their makeup and you've got just another t.v. drama. But, like all other posts expressed here, that's just my opinion.

proof? heh I know it's just one websites rating - but Babylon 5 at #5 behind only X-Files, the two good Star Trek's and the new Battlestar Gallactica isn't bad rating I'd say.

Firefly makes it respectably at #17, and Joss Whedon also gets Buffy in at #27.

And Shigy all of you posting here, in the bastion of Tarryk who loves Firefly more than his mother's birth-home or his great Grandmother's country of origin...

This is not a popularity contest here I assume.

That link I posted I think shows a realtively accurate assessment of Sci Fi TV Shows.

Here on the GSP Forums if I say Bab 5 is better than Firefly - I know full well I will be shot down.

It has nothing at all to do with a balanced appraisal of both shows. We are in Tarryk's house here.

Tarryk loves Firefly. It was a great show, and the Serenity movie was also great. If yiu think I don't mean that, search the forums and you will find my posts about them!

But you will also see mentions from people about how Firefly is Cowboys in space. It was a great series, but it was cowboys in space.

Babylon 5 was pure Sci Fi. And it was also great.

Anyone saying Firefly is more Sci Fi than Babylon 5 is just wrong.

But they were both great!

::edit:: Oh and Shigy? Answer me this. Have you ever watched Babylon 5? I have watched Babylon 5, Firefly, Serenity almost every Star Trek episode known to man, all X-Files episodes, every Superman movie and TV show, most Twilight Zone episodes when you Shiggy were likely unborn. Tell me you are an expert in all this over me? Luke Skywalker had his right hand cut off by his father before you were ever born. Shigy you need to look to us geezers of geekdom for wisdom of geekdom.

Ya know, posting a top whatever list isn't really ya know of what is better tha another. Your list has Bab5 ranked higher than Firefly but this list Has Firefly ahead of Bab5. These kinds of list are popularity contests as Shigy said

Boinky this is pilot as I'm gonna be.
Saying any show is better than another is always gonna start a argument rather than a discussion. Even if you say its more pure "pick your topic" (could be its more of a flying banana show for all it matters). Also please note I made no reference at all as to which is better. This is for a very good reason I did not since I have not seen Babylon 5. But posting a site on the net with top 100 (1000 100000000000 it really doesn't matter) is just a popularity contest. Some showes are more cult hits (thus having low rattings on those kind of sites). Doesn't make them better or worse.

Hell at the end of it all it comes down to personal preference.

If you really wanted to compare the two (without having seen Babylon 5 I wouldn't know why) saying one is better than the other or more something than the other is not the way to do it.
You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.

Okay I didn't mean to light the wick on this one, it's turning into an argue-fest in here with borderline crankiness.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's scifi on tv. No matter which way you slice it, in the end, we're all nerds. Opinionated geeky nerds, at that. :)

I've a question. If the first series of Star Trek was to come out this week, do you think anyone would give it two glances?

as original 60s footage I doubt it, but if they were able to remake it to today's standards.. I am sure that it would do pretty well

I am a die hard B5 fan.. I also love Firefly/Serenity, and to be honest, You cannot compare the two..

So dont..

End of..

But you started the thread stating that one was better than the other
Yes TK loves Firefly, but so do a whole bunch of us!
You started a thread to get a reaction.. now you seem to not like the reaction you got..

Boinky wrote:That link I posted I think shows a realtively accurate assessment of Sci Fi TV Shows.

No, Its a list of shows rated by a website, namely Boston.com with no information about how they came to decide the list.. It could all well be the opinion of one person (they forgot to include Farscape which even though I hate - deserves to be in the top 50).. totally irrelevant (Though interestingly there is a very cool comment on the 2nd page of the forum discussing Firefly "One should not confuse longevity with quality.") everyone is entitled to an opinion. What I keep disputing is that you claim B5 is more "scifi" than firefly.. Prove it to me! You have yet to say one reason WHY it is.. though I have asked many many times.

Boinky wrote:Here on the GSP Forums if I say Bab 5 is better than Firefly - I know full well I will be shot down.

Then why the hell did you start the thread?

Boinky wrote:It has nothing at all to do with a balanced appraisal of both shows. We are in Tarryk's house here.

No, we are in GSP's house. While Tarryk is the owner and has a huge role wihin GSP, there are other people as well! If you ask TK outright.. he will tell you I have been known to disagree as passionately with him too!
You think I am continuing to post here because I want to score browny points with Tarryk?
%^@# Off!
I am passionate about the subject! You just lost a crap load of respect (from me at least) accusing anyone who is disagreeing with you just to be Tarryk worshippers..

Boinky wrote:But you will also see mentions from people about how Firefly is Cowboys in space. It was a great series, but it was cowboys in space.

Yes, even Joss Wheon defines Firefly as The wild bunch meets the Millenium Falcon .. It doesn't make it any less science fiction!

Noone is saying the Firefly is more sci fi than B5 (I did mention I found firefly to be more real life though - no bumpy headed aliens, and a good incite into world powers)
You are the one that keeps saying that B5 is more Scifi than Firefly.. I keep asking you to justify that statement!

Boinky wrote:::edit:: Oh and Shigy? Answer me this. Have you ever watched Babylon 5? Hello pot, this is kettle, you look black today!
Who made you an expert?? Many times I have asked for justification of your claims onlty to get vague and other folks opinions as an answer..
Show us your expertise! Share your wisdom!
Also you went and did a personal attack.. very not cool!! comments of this nature will just make readers of this thread think someone else is the one in need of a little "maturity".
I am not claiming to be an expert, I have opinions that I am passionate about.
So please Mr Expert.. educate me!

How could I get angry from you calling me an asshole Dynamik?

Oh and since we brought up Heroes in this thread too (which I kinda think isn't 100% pure Sci Fi but I'll give you it is Sci Fi, just more super heroes which to me is almost another category)

I think I have the scoop on the 2nd season of Heroes. The first season was "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World"

The second season will be Save the Donkey, Save the World!

Erm where did I call you one of those?

Again you totally avoid the questions asked of any statement made by you by introducing childish arguments like the one quoted....
