Transformers?

Talk about anything!

Both Bay and Spielberg influeced how th movie was made. (think I read it on Wikipedia?)
What I'm wondering (as I'm no expert on either director)
The slow-mo military guys scenes, was that Bay's doing or Spielberg's?

And considering that Bay was never a Transformers fan I'm amazed how much he honored the franchise.

And I liked (despite how silly it was) that Bumblebee did not speak until near the end. Unspoken bonding was the goal there. It was said the concept was "A boy and his Car" (which is why Bay agreed to do this as he was reluctant at just doing a Transformers movie but he loved the Boy and Car bonding) I suspect this will be a huge hit in Japan in august when it premieres there. In fact the movie felt a bit Japanese in a way.

As to the Transformers themselves. The voice of Optimus Prime as the voice of Optimus Prime, how can ya beat that?
(a shame that the voice of Megatron did not fit the darked style needed for the movie, he is in the game though but the game is kinda getting slaughtered at least here)

As for special effects, holy cow ILM are gods. Amazing work there.
Best CG/Live blending I've ever seen.
Bay even instructed the ILM animators to study martial arts movies to base the bot's fights on, and keep a Samurai feel to it.
And the Optimus Prime character was based on Liam Neeson's characters.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformers_%28film%29

Read it, I found the development and design stuff very interesting.
My respect for Bay has increased indeed.

As for the writers...It felt a bit cartooney yeah, but then again that is the origin of the Transformers so...

As far as cartoon to movie adaptions go this ranks among the best out there.
I was hoping for more Autobot scenes, but as this is a introductionary movie I'm sure that if (more like when) the 2 sequels are made we'll get more upclose and personal with the Autobots and the backstory of Cybertron etc.

Also make sure you read about the choice about how te Transformers transform and realism they tired to achieve. Mind boggling.

Btw! Bay even cut his fee by 30% to gain a bigger movie budget.

Particularly in the Bonecrusher vs. Prime fight on the highway, the motion of the bots from vehicle to bot is crazy well-done.

That sort of torso twist momentum thing? Yeah mind blowing.
My reaction was "oh shit, if that thing came at me I'd die of a heart attack"
It truly looked like a living twisting mass of metal coming to tear you to pieces.

It also showcase how superior the Transformers are to humans if those huge bulky machines have that much precision, they truly are our superiors. And should feel honored the Autobots holds us in such high regard, despite acting like bastards. (thinks of poor Bumblebee in the capture scene)

This was really one of the best action films in a while... I agree there are things "missing", but it was a really cool enjoyable ride (no pun intended). It's also fun having a robot ask someone "are you ladiesman!?"

I actually agree with Otori 100% on this one, as a kid I loved Transformers, but the fact that the movie is based on the new toys rather than any old comics or cartoons sorta made it crap. The effects ruled and the backstory was good, but the acting was attrocius and ruined it for me.. all in all I disagree with anyone saying it was great, sure it was to you, but I was disapointed with it myself...

So I guess you agree with me then Shikome :)
I never said great, good, cool or any similar synonyms ;)
You will also note how I did not compare it with the classic Transfomers.
If anything I consider this movie a Transformers AU (Alternative Universe)

PS! As for the acting, at least it wasn't much worse than the latest Die Hard movie.

I'm just surprised at the number of people who went expecting for this movie to be some sort of cinematic masterpiece. It's an action movie. About robots. That turn into cars.

If you were a fan of the cartoon as a kid, I strongly urge you to go back and watch some of the autobots cartoons again. I dare you to tell me the writing and dialogue in those cartoons was better than the movie.

Not a "cinematic masterpiece", just a little less "groan" moments. So I should compare the writing and dialogue of the cartoons? Well, ya maybe they are pretty close, but that's a sad statement in itself. As a long time Marvel comic book nut, I expect a full length live action movie to make the dialogue a bit better than the comic. X-men and Spiderman have pulled it off pretty well. I don't expect tear-jearking academy award performances, just not the cheezeball crap that was in Transformers.

I acknowledge the ground breaking SFX, especially the CGI, but as far as that, it is a typical Michael Bay, over-dramatic (did you not see Armegedeon?) , overly hyped summer action flick.

As for seeing that all the critics just call it a Michael Bay whore flick....there is good reason behind it. His tag is all over it...Even the reference to Armageddon , but the slow motion shots of US soldiers, etc, etc...

Anyway, nuff said from me, I'll shut up now....I had a great time watching it,w as a lot of fun.....but I had a greater time watching "300", that was great. Looking foward to Ironman for sure.

*nods* I felt like I did after watching Batman Begins, when I had to explain to Tim Burton's Batman that it had just got numped from its position as my favourite Batman Film.

New Optimus Prime is my Daddy now...

Those may not have been the Transformers of my childhood... but they were so frickin' cool that they should have been!

I think I told 4 people yesturday I had a sexual experience while
watching that movie. Omg my eyes would have realised fluid if
I wasn't actually sitting on the edge of my seat going "wow, omg
what now, aaaahh" I spent most of my time trying to tell my brother
to stfu and trying to get him to understand and sitting there ignoring
him so I could just drewl.

Over all I want a mini Jazz of Bumblebee, Prime gets second spot
to them!

I dont mean to sound like an attention whore, but I thought that movie was terrible. Really, I mean it, it was barely funny, made the US millitary look like little kids with BB guns, and generally was stupid. In my opinion.
