The return of Fight Night! (With added commentary)

Postby Myz_Lilith » Fri Jul 27, 2007 2:14 pm

Due to popular demand, JC Orion has brought back his infamous Fight Nights (last seen during Funcom's Birthday Celebrations)

He is hoping to stage live battles-to the death (or at least, battles-to-the-pwned) each and every night throughout the GSP Fifth Anniversary Celebrations. As before, he will be taking suggestions from the audience each night for custom-made battles, the vicinity crowd will then vote to decide the victor!

This will culminate on Sunday night with the huge GSP Fight Night death match bonanza - with 24 participants drawn from the ranks of both GSP and the Gridstream Conundrums competing in a tournament to be GSP Fight Night Champion.

So if you want to participate, come along to the shows, get your fight nominations ready, and cheer on your champions to victory! I think you can espect to see JC at around 8 or 9pm EST, but there's no fixed time so this can change - but some of the DJ's have been annoncing the fights on air as they happen, so stay tuned in! I shall also be posting the results up here as they come in, for posterity, taunting and snide remarks!

Remember, the first rule of JC Orion's Fight Club is... Tell everybody about Fight Club, cos it rocks!

(If you want to see the results the Funcom Birthday fight nights, they are available here)

Jcorion shouts: I have been your Fight Night announcer, Michael "JC" Buffer. I hope you've enjoyed the fights just as much as I have moderating them.
And remember to get your vote on the next time you hear the words...
"LEEEET'S GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

The fulll results from the past few nights will be up soon, but right now here's a quick update on the

Gridstream Productions Special Fight Night Tournament

In the qualifyinf matches earlier:

Tarryk defeated Meenstreek and Yxxil (10 - 3 - 3)
Danyoo defeated Kirasha and Tastyvixen (8 - 7 - 4)
Lykeios defeated Chaimera and Lauri (18 - 6 - 5)
Veldron defeated Xtropic and Kyrros (15 - 5 - 0)
Dynamiks defeated Psykotropik and Gridfan (9 - 5 - 4)
Epicine defeated Narcotic and Shigy (8 - 7 - 3)
Vallikat drew with Aakasha* and defeated Jairyn (7 - 7 - 1)
* Tiebreaker vote called: Vallikat (10 - 6)
Traanse defeated Dithyramb and Uber Leet (12 - 10 - 1)

This means that the quarter final line up will be:

Tarryk vs Danyoo

Lykeios vs Veldron

Dynamiks vs Epicine

Vallikat vs Traanse

The next round will be kicking off soon on RK2... so tune in and log on to make your vote count!

(Please note - making additional votes using alts is strictly forbidden. If more than one character on an account casts a vote ALL votes from that account will be disregarded, and further action may be taken... DO NOT ANNOY THE NICE ARK!)

In the words of JC...
Let us prepare in anticipation of performing some rumbling!!!

Fight Night II, the Sequel! Live from the GSP Fifth Anniversary Bash of Bashes

ROUND THREE! Live from the Atlantean Dimension
Day Three: Friday 27th July

All matches were suggested by the audience.

Fight I - Battle of the GSP Heavyweights
Tarryk (10 - 7) Dithyramb
Billed as a match up between the two of GSP's multi-talents who not only play the music on Gridstream, they make it too!

Fight II - Battle of the Predictable Outcome
Leet with Flamethrower (13 - 3) Flatulent Atrox
Personally I thought the predictable outcome would be a fireball that wiped out half of Rubi Ka, but I wasn't allowed to vote for that. Or for Chuck Norris.

Fight III - GSP Tournament Exhibiton Match
AKA The Battle for the beer!
Chaimera (8 - 7) Dynamiks
* Chaimera won the choice of one of his qualifying match opponents at the GSP Fight Night Tournament
In this fight, the two contestants were set on opposite sides of the arena, facing off over a bottomless keg of Plumbo XXX, Dynamiks's suggestion that in that case they would probably just both descend on the beer and polish it off together rather than actually fight was probably more accurate, but dismissed on the grounds it wouldn't provide the necessary levels of carnage demanded by the frenzied Fight Night fans... not until the following morning, at any rate!

Main Event - Battle of the Soul Legends
Stevie Wonder (7 - 7) Ray Charles
* Match was a draw
We never did work out whether Stevie Wonder is an extremely cunning secret identity for Wonder Woman. If he is, it didn't help him here. Either that or Ray Charles is Spiderman in his spare time...

Fight Night II, the Sequel! Live from the GSP Fifth Anniversary Bash of Bashes

ROUND FOUR! Live from the Rimor Dimension
Day Three: Saturday 28th July

Fight I - Battle of the Movie Villains
Darth Vader (9 - 4) Megatron
Opinion was divided as to whether Darth Vader would have the use of the Death Star for this battle. In which case Megatron would have had to employ Galvatron to even things up. Apart from then he wouldn't have been Megatron anymore, he would have been Galvatron. Which may be why he lost. Or it might just be that Darth Vader is well hard.

Fight II - Battle of the Face-Ripping Music
GSP Stream (8 - 6) ARK CR Assistant Director Cheoptera's face
This battle arose after some comments from Cheoptera that she wasn't entirely sure this whole having-your-face-musically-ripped-off thing was a good idea, because she quite liked her face and was quite attached to it... which led to a discussion as to whether an ARK would be imune from the face-shredding power of Gridstream Productions in full stream. Result? It turns out that no, they aren't.

Fight III - Battle of the Starfleet Captains
Fatal Fourway Match
James T. Kirk (7) Kathryn Janeway (7)
Jean-Luc Picard (4)
Benjamin Sisko (2)
* Joint win between Kirk & Janeway
Jonathan Archer was disqualified from the bout, but will be invited to a rematch when Enterprise becomes good

Fight IV - Battle of the Victor
Keg of Beer (9 - 6) Chaimera
The Keg of Beer was Chaimera's prize for last night's Exhibition Match

Fight V - GSP Tournament Exhibition Match
Tag Team match up, as voted for by the crowd over a three-way match not involving Kirasha
Veldron & Kirasha (12 - 5) Tarryk & Dithyramb
Veldron & Kirasha won the choice of one of their respective qualifying match opponents at the GSP Fight Night Tournament
No jello was involved in this match, despite the best efforts of the GSP Dancers...

Main Event - Battle of the ARK Heavyweights
2-vs-1 handicap match
GM Asomadus (10 - 7) ARK CR Director Bekrowe & ARK Operations Assistant Director Lethadon
Proving that Veldron was right to hide behind Asomadus when Beckrowe was looking at him funny...

Fight Night II, the Sequel! Live from the GSP Fifth Anniversary Bash of Bashes

ROUND SIX! Live from the Atlantean Dimension
Day Five: Sunday 29th July

In which JC Orion presents to you the overall main event for the GSP Birthday Bash:
The Gridstream Productions Special Fight Night Tournament

Quarter finals

There was a highly impressive turn-out among Gridstream Productions members for the final bouts, all rocking the vote - and in some cases tipping it right over - as they alternatively cajoled, bribed, threatened and pleaded with their supporters for those all-important votes. However, as some DJs were prevented from being in vicinity to fight their cause due to RK4 intervention (while of course still absolutely being in the ethereal ARK Arena used to stage these battles) the GSP Dancers acted as neutral and independant campaigners on behalf of anybody who was absent. And for the campaign to make all the final fights into jello fights. Or at least chocolate mousse...

Match I:
Tarryk (10 - 9) Danyoo
In spite of the battle being technically two on one (Well, unless RK2 Tarryk does actually count as a seperate entity, in which case it was all square...) Tarryk just managed to scrape past Dani with the age old campaign tactic of "Vote for me or I will come to your house and eat your pets"

Match II:
Veldron (12 - 7) Lykeios
Lykeios threatened a 24 hour Hoffathon if he lost. Veldron threatened to ban any playing of the Hoff, period, if HE lost.
SO... I guess people really like the Hoff!
(Not that I'm personally biased in any way about this one...)

Match III:
Dynamiks (12 - 11) Epicine
Epicine demands a recount, yo!

Match IV:
Traanse (12 - 11) Vallikat
"Vote for Valli and Traanse will go down!" Unfortunately that inspiring slogan was only created AFTER a narrow defeat for Vallikat, otherwise it would have been a sure fire winner...

At this point the GSP Dancers may have stopped being ~entirely~ neutral and independant and waged a tiny weeny leetle bit of war on Traanse for defeating our much beloved Valli...

Semi finals
Match I:
Tarryk (12 - 11) Veldron
Rumours that Veldron actually voted against himself and so handed Tarryk the victory are currently being investigated by the Omnipol Gambling division... not least by Inspector "Psycho-killer" Hammerson who lost a small fortune on the outcome.

Match II:
Traanse (17 - 10) Dynamiks
Suggestions that Traanse may have been unfairly influencing the vote by actually being on air at the time and encouraging listeners to write in with votes for her proved completely unfounded when a quick review proved that the majority of her voters were within ICC... These suggestions were not made in any way shape or form by any of the GSP Dancers, who were not at all still bitter at the defeat of Vallikat. Oh, no no no...

Battle for Bronze
Veldron (18 - 4) Dynamiks
Veldron receives Tournament Bronze as 3rd place
Those on the scene believe that this score could reflect Veldron mis-hearing the bout as being the "Battle for Booze" and believing that rum may be involved...

GRAND FINAL!
Traanse (15 - 10) Tarryk
Tarryk receives Tournament Silver as 2nd place
Traanse receives Tournament Gold as winner of the tournament

The final saw some inspired campaigning by supporters of both factions, carrying on well after the final vote was cast. In spite of many of the campaign promises being illogical, contradictory, against several intergalactic treaties, downright impossible, or just a bit silly, the combatants fought on to a dramatic final takedown, which climaxed with an almighty smackity-smack on Tarryk. In the end, Traanse pwned all.

I put it down to all that jello wrestling she did when she was a Dancer

*sniff*

We're not bitter.

We'll forgive her for beating Valli.

Eventually.

Congratulations to Traanse, undisputed title champion and Queen of Gridstream Productions!

*snuggle* We love you really :)

And congratulations to all the participants: winners, losers, reigning champs and plucky new challengers, those that surrendered gracefully and those that went down kicking and biting... you are all winners in your own way.

Um.

Apart from not in the GSP Champion way. At least, until next time?
