Not sure you can ever use the word raped and have it taken in a good context. But words drift in meanings over time and we are seeing alot of formerly negative word associations turned on their heads in just our lifetime. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised at raped being given a posative spin.

I'm not really a big fan of covers. I tend to believe in the integrity of the original artists vision. This is probably because as an artist myself I'd hate to have someone take one of my sculptures and modify it then call it improved. It might very well be better or more athestically pleasing. But I make sculptures that reflect who I am and how I see things. So to me a modification is a form of cultural rape. That said theres a difference between parady and satire and redoing something because you think your version will be better.

As for the music... Well it's interesting but the clips are so short that just when I start to be engaged by the music and about to form an opinion it ends and loops back on itself. I can't form an opinion based on what I've heard so far except to say two things. He or his singer have a good voice. Kinda one of those nuts in a vice pitches though. At least for the one song I heard enough of to think it might be a man singing. That particular range doesn't suite my musical tastes as far as male artists go. I like to know for sure it's a man singing. I will conceade that is a personal foible.

I suppose the term "raped" is somewhat inapproprite, but I suppose deeper meaning could be read into that. I simply used it to mean that the song was remixed by a DJ, Jan Wayne. Probably verbage overkill, I apologize especially to anybody who might have taken it the wrong way.

When a DJ remixes a song I don't really think of it as a "remake", but a reinvention. If the reinvention is successful, the true intention and sincerity of the song remains intact. In this case, I heard the remix before I even heard the original, but the remix caught my attention with the lyrics, so when I heard the original, I was happy. The vocalist is a female, forgive me for not knowing her name, as a lot of DJ's employ a lot of different vocalist depending on the song and the style that seems most appropriate. The short clips of the songs on the website are of course due to it being the artists website and not wanting you to be able to access his music for free. I just presented it as a place to further explore Jan Wayne if you felt the want to.
