What do YOU do with your Halloween leftovers?

Postby Chippel » Sat Nov 04, 2006 3:10 pm

Well I dunno 'bout you guys, but my mom, she buys in BULK. We're talkin' 15 POUNDS of Jolly Rancher hard candies, this year. A few years back, we had Smarties come out of our eyes, ears, and nostrils. Uh-huh. My dad and I.. We were thinking we'd boil some of those Jolly Ranchers down, see if we get A) A syrup. B) a jello like subtance or C) some overly sticky crystaline mush that will take ages to get out of the pot.

Place you bets now/leave you OWN stories!

Back the way:

I'm bbbbaaaaaaaccccccckkkkkk.

I'm thinking you may get option 3.. Yeah.. your mom will love it!

My first year in Texas, I thought we would get Trick or Treaters like we did in PA... So I bought like 3 SAM's size variety things and we got a total of 0, yes 0, Trick or Treaters.

I held on to some of the candy for just putting in the candy jars, and made him take the rest to work and give to the guys at work.

Yep. But gotta love Sam's Club. Typical for us to get nada ToT'ers too, cuz we live in the boonies. Well, boonies inside the boonies. Yay for Texas halloweens.

Though, I gotta admit.. The "everything's bigger in Texas" holds true for candy packages too.

-drops Jen a air-mail 5 lb package of Jolly Rancher's- Of course.. You realize.. Now that Halloween's over.. All the GOOD candy is on sale! -zips to the store-

I truely love Halloween but unlike when I lived in appartments many many years ago NO Steps and just a lot of individual circle cultesacs easy trick or treating... now two flights of steps up to my house on a street with houses of the same in the gte out up the steps and down the walk and up the steps... well dont get many trick or treaters this year I got a total of eight 5 little cutties and 3 older ones all dressed in black and not really in costume... but I give great treats they have a choice of a cold soda diet or regulare or Juicy juice boxes or Mini cookie packs I dont Give candy they get too much of it as it is

Drinks are a good idea actually Jugs... You know they have to get thirsty while they are out there getting all that candy! And cookies are just like candy to a lot of kids, but you can trick them and make them like sugar free or something and that would make for some happy parents :)

here's my idea on this potential outcome. :)
buy the cheapest pot you can from some 2nd hand store.
With that, you may experiment to your hearts delight w/o ruining anyones good cookery. :P

it would probably be smart to get the cheap pots, but also use a double boiler system. get a larger pan and boil water in it. then get a slightly smaller pan and put your candy in it and place in the other pan. same concept as when melting chocolate...gets the temp up, without burning it or whatever...you'll probably end up with a carmelized crystaline clump...good luck, have fun, don't lose an eye, and let us know how it turns out.
If you don't have anything intelligent to say, say something anyway. Someone else could probably use the laugh!

I went another route with giving out treats this year. Glow stick stuffs! Got to love the internet for ordering bulk. :D Still have plenty of glow sticks for my poi practise though. :) Its good for giving nice bruises.

Anyway, the kids love the glow sticks, necklaces, bracelets, whatnot. There were even a couple mouth peices, and on this street being seen is a GOOD thing.

I had candy to give out too but had to take my girls out trick or treating as well and just left it in a boal. How much you want to bet that it was all gone in the first 15 min. haha

You could always put them all together into one giant candy and Pimp That Snack

(Used to be Pimp My Snack but Pimp My Ride threatened to sue them. Gits.)

http://www.pimpthatsnack.com/project.php?projectID=302 OMFG im in love! cadbury ftw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes 75% off big bag snickers mini's got a WHOLE case hidden in a warehouse unaccounted for ;) im going to 'find' it in a couple of days *wink* *wink*

about the jolly rancher problem, this is a fun solution (can use this with any hard clear-ish candy ie lollipops)... double boiler is best all of the same flavor in a pot. per lb of candies add 1/4 Cup water, 1 Tbls light corn syrup. (water will slightly vary depending on the candy) simmer until its evenly mixed and then bring to a boil for about 5-7 minutes then pour onto a (heavily) greased or waxed surface (bees or parafin, something that wont kill you if eaten) something like a pastry block or a cold sheet or marble, granite or glass.

What do you get? Colored candy glass. try making a stained glass desert using melted chocolate as the leading! This will actually keep at room temperature for about 3-7 days depending on humidity. I've done this with the huge bags of lollipops you typically see at doctor offces or banks... should work just as well with the jolly ranchers.
