Relief! ...but...

Postby Vallikat » Sat Oct 28, 2006 7:17 pm

For anyone that was on last night you'll know that I was quite upset. It was my first time on world since the last patch and I was having some issues. First my yalm seemed to have a mind of its own and I was having a hell of a time getting it to go where I wanted. Second, when I decided to give up on hunting under those conditions and come to the party, I found that my fps dropped to 0.7. Yeah...that's not a typo, less than 1. There was a good crowd, but not THAT many people there. I was sick. If that's the frame rate I'm going to have in Reets, I wasn't real sure how I would feel about coming there at all.

Last night I did the only thing I could think to do. I cleaned-up my files and defraged. Well what do you know... Framerate in Reets was back up to normal (which for me is around 5) and as soon as I moved away from the decorations, it was up just a shade over that. Yay me. Went outside and suddenly my yalm is all better too. w00t!! This patch didn't kill me afterall! I'm still alive!!

Only one thing...

Ever since they did that patch which improved textures (whenever that was) I've had troubles with certain missions. I'll get stuck in a crash loop trying to enter certain missions for whatever reason. I've had everyone from Arks to GMs to Devs to some fine folks here try to help me in the past to no avail. But somehow I thought that maybe if they change the way things are rendored my mission crash problem will be resolved. To test I ran a couple UPH missions. First 2 ran fine. The last one I crashed on. So anyway, ARK just fixed me, but it looks like missions are still not working.

The bright side? I haven't lost anything which is a HUGE relief! I was so worried about this patch. Anyway, that's just me babbling. I'll be around to party later on! :)

just want to do some damage control as a loyal fan of AO... as much as some things will suck you have to appreciate FC for all the work they do in at least trying to fix problems... could be worse, they could not care and let things be the way they are. I will suffer throught the zoom scroll (which has been toggled :) ) so long as they are still fixing problems else where.

Sorry to hear about all the trouble your having valli. I myself am starting to consider slapping together a few extra parts and a new hdd to make an Ao exclusive box. Seems the more congested the hdd becomes the slower and poorer quality I need to run AO. same system just fuller hard drive = poorer experience running anarchy I think. The communal desktop is getting up ther in age and could use a complete overhaul or as prices and capitalist culture dictate an entirely new replacement. hey I see its able to run on linux... anyone want to tackle getting AO to run on menuet? lol my kung fu is not that good

I put together an above average(but not top of the line) machine for just over $500...just swapped over the hdd, but I'm sure you can find a good one for a decent price...granted approx $600 isn't exactly something most of us just have lying around, but I've found it good to start saving up whatever you can, and while you do, try and do research as to what you want, what hardware will work together, what gives you the best bang for the buck, etc....by the time you have your system designed, you'll probably have the money to buy it! lol
If you don't have anything intelligent to say, say something anyway. Someone else could probably use the laugh!

New patch today that's supposed to have addressed the graphics problems.

From the problems people were having eariler, I think it addressed them by not letting anyone log in - no players = no graphics issues ;)

Have there been massive problems? I've been logged in for awhile now without any issues.

Had no problems getting on earlier. But there were a whole splurge of zoning issues and logging in problems around 8-9pm GMT. People not being able to zone, or giving up on trying to get in somewhere only to be zapped in later when they were half a mile down the road.

I logged out to see if getting the patch might help (the patch announcement came up after I was initially logged in), patched, and then couldn't log back in again - and around the same time other people were having problems getting on-world, including Psykotropik.

I think the various issues settled down a bit after that (I was at the show, but the couple of times I got Bonzo'd I had no problems getting back into the bar.) I think there were still some people haveing problems getting there though. But I wasn't paying all that much attention really, as that was when the stream started to play up :x Looks like them Gremlins is playing on the interweb again...

(And I must point out that with all that going on Psyko put on an amazing show under exceedingly difficult circumstances - you rock girl!)
