Whip! I Haz One!

Postby Vallikat » Mon Sep 23, 2013 2:17 pm

Yesterday I finally set about trying to see if I can get my whip. I would like to personally thank the good folks at Unfair.co because it was their guides that I have primarily to thank for the new toy (and "disciplinary tool") at my side. :)

It was a long journey, fraught with many perils. Still I managed to get through it alone...mostly. There is one part where you have to defeat 3 waves of attackers. The first wave was difficult but doable. The second wave, not so much. I was just about to call for back-up when another player happened along doing the same mission and helped me (read: cut through them like a hot knife through butter). Yay for random strangers with swords!!

It was after midnight when I finally got my whip and I sat there hesitating over accepting the final part of the mission chain. Go to bed I told myself (much as I had an hour before when kicking off the segment that would finally put a whip in my hand). But I grabbed up the keys and was off to jump the train.

That was a mistake actually, not just because of the late hour but I'm already a bad jumper and there are parts on that train where this doesn't bode well. I gave up at nearly 1 but I will go back to try again another day. :)

Still even without having done that, I will say that this whole mission chain was enjoyable even if it was frustrating at times. Well thought out and well constructed. If I had any problem it would be the part where you get the whip. I found it odd that you could complete the entire chain and not end up with a whip at all. It's really never mentioned. If not for the guides and things I had heard along the way, I wouldn't have know what to do or how to even get it let alone make it usable. Otherwise, well done.

Now, having said all that, let's just get back to the important part: Vallikat has a whip!!

Yay Valli!

If you need help and you see me online, send me a tell. I'd be happy to help. I love the concept of issue 6 a little more than the execution. To wit: it's almost harder than issue 7, which takes place in Transylvania.

Speaking of which, have you run that series yet?

Thanks Antu!

Yeah I haven't done issue 7 yet. My understanding is that my poor jumping is going to be an even greater frustation for me. :(

Oh I would also like to point out that I had several offers of help since this issue came out and I wanted that whip. I appreciate everyone who offered! I have this real stubborn tendency to want to do something on my own and not get help unless there is no way of doing it alone (thus why I generally get low "social" scores on those gamer personality quizzes even though I'm mostly social in gaming). In this case most of the issues were really more involving sneaking about or doing the right things in the right order, which doesn't so much need a partner. Still if I hadn't been so stubborn it wouldn't have taken me the whole day to get through since the times that I did have to fight slowed me down considerably. So yeah maybe for issue 7 I will shrug off my stubborness and accept help. :)

TBH only if you're wanting a teddy bear. Presuming that the people who told you that are referring to what I think they are referring to there's a number of options when you get to that point and they're all reasonably easy anyways.

Well of course I want a teddy bear! Duh! Is there a reason to do this issue otherwise? :P

(ok actually I'd want the bear a whole lot more if it walked...I want to do the issue mostly because I heard a lot of good things about how well written it is).

118 AP per run and a purple neck item. And a flamethrower.

The jumping to get the bear is overrated. Turn off sprint for most jumps and you're fine. Don't step on the ends, which you'll understand in time.

Nice work. I should do that. I've done issue 7 but obviously missed the bit to get the teddy bear.

Grats, Valli!

And I know exactly what you mean about wanting to figure it out yourself at your own pace. I do the same thing. I'm not opposed to a little help with the fighting parts, but I want to take my time to look around and solve all the puzzles myself without worrying that someone's getting bored waiting for me to just get on with the mission. Especially investigations. Figuring them out is the best part!
