Yeah quite impressive. And study it well guys, look at the cool housing parts. Notice that giant meeting hall with the seats all around, the cool disco club thingee. AI is so much more than aliens.

And the text does sound vaguely familiar. Did you write it at all Tarryk, or was it just given to you by FC? Oh also, you sounded a bit different there than normal, of course you weren't spouting out any "Doom!" s or "Facial Destruction" s either

Well anyway, didn't really even think about it much before, and nothing to take away from how great a spot it really is. But aren't we living in the age of space exploration and like Omni-Tek being all over the galaxy? Now the tone seems more like a 50s mentality. "We looked to the stars and wondered what was up there" kinda thing doesn't seem right for this advanced future society. Oh well, AI will still rawk.

Lol, AI is just the "Houses of Rubi-Ka with an added side for the non social players ^^
The aliens were added later, this was a social pack to begin with... Which is why it kicks so serious arse!

That is something I noticed also... when Tarryk says Tower of Something... he doesn't say Tower of Babel... down loading the video now to listen again to that part...

And I don't think he says Bagel, but he didn't say Babel either. It more sounded like he said Baybel (I always thought it was said Bab-el like how you say someone babels alot and they don't say anything worthwhile. Sort of like what I'm doing now.)

So anyways is it said...

Bay-bel (The way Tarryk says it)
Bab-el (Like someone talking to much)
Babe-el (Like it's a tower of babes dude)

Just wondering what people think. (I don't think there is a wrong answer, just depends on where you are from... sort of like that whole Potato contravercy)

It is refferring to the tower of Babel... It is pronounced Baybel... And it makes perfect sense that that is what he is talking about... Also, he is handed a script for the commercial... Doubt they'd make a "fun" joke in it, when it's a serious trailer like that... It is the tower of Babel... If you don't know what that is, you prpbably didn't pay attention durin religion ^^

::raises hand:: Religion? Was that in twef grade? knew I shoulda stuck to mah schoolin' like paw said  j/k

Seriously though, despite not even slightly being brought up that way I know a fair deal of that book at least in general. So this is the story about the presumptious folks who thought it'd be fun to build a tower to heaven, and the angry god(well thats most of the stories right), and the thing falls and people speak different languages then. I always thought it was pronounced with the soft A sound as well, but what do I know.

And anyway "The bagels are in the tower" just doesn't sound right, now "The bagels are in the fridge in the tradeskill room in the org headquarters!" sounds OK ta me

The tower of Babel is the one that the Babylonians built to get to heaven and it became an affront to god so he broke it down and made everyone in babylon speak a different language, thus making all the different languages of the world?

Wow, that was one hell of a run-on sentence.

I know what the tower of babel is. I'm a cow that is raising up to godhood soon you know (or at least demi-god hood). My questions was how is it pronounce.

And you can insist that it is prounced Baybel, but I have heard just as many people prounce it the other two ways I listed as well, and each person insisting they are correct (hence the potato comment)

[edit add: And yes I understand he was handed a script, but you know something... if I was the one reading the script and I worked for a radio station that had an ongoing joke about bagels... I might just prounce it Bay-bel and not Bab-el if I thought of it.]

There are two (and ONLY two) possible pronunciations for Babel in the phrase "Tower of Babel".

1. BAY-ble

2. Babble

You can see why I picked the first. But both are legit in the english language. "Bab-El" is NOT legit.

Also, FYI, it was a script but I edited and improvised the hell out of it before it hit the final take. It's all generally the same as the initial script, with the wording swapped around to help with the narrative feel.

Ah I did not mean to say that the last part of El was pronounced like Elsavidor.

Babble that's what I ment to say was one of the ways I've heard it said.

(And I realy have heard people say that first part as Babe)

Thanks mang. :)

Note: I originally missed the question about how the speech was inspired, or from what source. Your guess is as good as mine about any particular source, but I'm sure it's pretty widespread. There's a few old cliches in there. :)

Being a very old lady, I thought at first that it was a little reminiscent of the opening and closing narratives from Battlestar Galactica. But now that I re-read them, I guess my memory is just faulty. Or maybe its that when the show first came out, I was around 10 or 11 and probably felt the same excitement over it that I have now over AI. :)

There are those who believe... that life here... began out there. Far across the universe. With tribes of humans... who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians... or the Toltecs... or the Mayans... that they may have been the architects of the Great Pyramids... or the lost civilizations of Lemuria... or Atlantis... Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man... who even now fight to survive... somewhere beyond the heavens

Fleeing from the Cylon Tyrany, the last Battlestar, Galactica, leads a rag-tag fugitive fleet on a lonely quest. A shining planet, known as Earth

I sort of thought it sounded like the Intro to Babylon 5 (SP?)

Anyways I think some fairly strange things sometimes.
