Love Hina was cool simply because it starts out like your usual anime with one guy and a bunch of girls...but somewhere between the beginning and end it turns classic.

Scryed was one I didn't think I'd like, but I found myself enjoying it.

Trigun is popular, yet still not really overrated(even though it's on Cartoon Network now...but ugh that dub is horrible).

And of course .hack//sign(which is also on CN now) originally had me as a fan, but after the slow plot and metaphoric message behind it, I'm rather sick of it.

Excel Saga, as I've said a million times, is fscking insane, pointless, and VERY Japanese...god I love that series.

Oh, and we can't forget the ever classic Initial D...I'm not really a big car buff, but listening to its music while driving lets you relive your favorite moments...heh, yeah right.

Hmm, GSP should play some Initial D tunes now and then...if they'll play Captain Jack from DDR, why not Break the Night?

Ahh, I'm getting deep into Fantasy Anime.

Started with Record of Lodoss War.

    BEST BLOODY ANIME SERIES

Now I'm trying to move into Slayers, and something called "Magic Knight Rayearth".

Really though, I'll take any suggestions, away from the overly romantic or humorous (Slayers is good, but stuff like Tenchi and Ah! My goddess doesn't hit with me, at least when I watched the former).

I want to see "Those who Hunt Elves" though.

I'll be damned if Elves are not cute, let alone it sounding Freaking hilarious.

I remembered, this should be a picture-related thread, so...

Heh, there's a good wacky pirate anime...One Piece. Pretty funny, since the main character is made of rubber(long story). Yarr.
Image

Tenchi was amusing, but Ah! My Goddess was just irritating...my friend put it best with "Watch the movie, forget the OAV ever existed." With Tenchi, at least a few of the characters were interesting, and unique...with AMG, it was four characters, and they all seemed a little bland... Only cool part was the entire idea of Heaven having bugs that made nature itself go apeshit...and that you remedied these bugs with a mallet. Last year at Otakon, I swear EVERYONE had one of those mallets.
Image

Oh, also, one of the only really good things I found because of Cartoon Network...Lupin the 3rd. I'd never actually seen it before, and it's great. Funny as hell, and interesting plotlines. So great that often I'll play the Lupin theme song while playing my fixer.

Seeing as how we're back on this thread, I should probably update as to what I've found too...well, ok, I'll only really mention one. FLCL. I swear, it's genius, even though it's nonsense. If you've played Guilty Gear XX, this is where the inspiration for I-No(the guitar-wielding witch boss) came from.
Image

What's FLCL mean, you ask? Well, it's pronounced as "Furi Kuri"...but what's THAT mean? The most popular belief is that it means "Fooly Cooly", which somewhat represents the series well.. It can be completely idiotic one moment, then VERY cool the next. Also, it should be stated upfront that the series has VERY good music, done by The Pillows. It's good because it's so laid back..no matter what's going on. In fact, the main action themes are rather relaxed, which lends a bizzare feel to the sequences. Ones to get would be Sleepy Head(usually played during chaotic mischief scenes), Rush(played...for the hell of it, at any time), Little Busters(played when Naota kicks some ass of his own, even though it's a very slow and relaxed song), and I Think I Can(played during the final battle). Though I have to say, I'd watch the series before listening to the music; it makes a very large difference.

The series follows a boy in the 6th grade...but that's about all it really follows. Seriously, this stuff is bizzare... Haruko Haruhara, a self-called alien, appears out of nowhere on her Vespa scooter, pulls a ripcord on her guitar, and slams our young hero over the head with it. For no reason. This is just the first five minutes of the first episode folks; it only gets worse from here.
Image

From there, robots begin climbing out of people's heads...one of which becomes a static character. Haruko demonstrates constantly how a guitar is a perfectly viable weapon; it seems to be able to stop just about ANYTHING.

The meaning behind the series is almost impossible to figure out immediately. Hell, it's possible there WAS no meaning to it. Though, personally I think it's about growing up, and setting your own goals rather than living to someone else's aspirations. Then again, I also think the moon is made of cheese, and that dogs are OUR masters. This series was made by Gainax, which is famous for the Evangelion series...another series with a cryptic meaning. There's a difference though; I HATE Evangelion. Its symbolism is completely meaningless, and it really doesn't do anything...FLCL however, entertains like there's no tomorrow.

Another strange bit is that Naota's father is a huge anime fan... He is constantly making references to other anime, and even does a bit of cosplay here and there throughout the series. Also of note, this is the only anime I've seen that has an entire segment devoted to South Park. For absolutely no reason, the art suddenly goes entirely South Park style... Don't ask me what it all means. I'm just the messenger, man.

E-eyebrows...

Edit: It's also worth mentioning that I've got a Haruko Haruhara wallpaper on my desktop...it's been there a while and it's not going anywhere any time soon.
