Yeeeowzah. Haven't bought it myself, but my older sister and her bf are crazy about it. He's a superbrain pc technician, too, so I'll be interested what he has to say about that.

Hope the bloody program gets banned. There is two reasons why people pirate games. Its cheaper and sadly in almost all cases its easier...which just isn't right when your paying for something.

Storm in a glass of water, to be honest. It's the same crap that StarForce faced a few years back, and the issues users experienced there proved to singularly be because the very same user wouldn't leave it alone. Tampering with either SecuRom or Starforce WILL result in issues because of where they install to: Ring 0, the kernel of the system.

I will agree that it should be printed on the box and/or in the EULA (which is useless since nobody actually reads them) that the software product contains the DRM, and it would be good form for Securom to do the same as Starforce did: put a downloadable removal-software on their webpage.

After that it's a case of "Don't want the DRM? Don't buy the product."

Its the stealth with which it installs itself and the fact that I may want the game but not there crappy anti piracy protection. Mind you I tend to crack most of the legit games I have anyway to get rid of the crappy you must insert your cd crap...

Installing to Ring0 is very very bad.
The only stuff that should be allowed in Ring0 is the OS etc.

Now if DRM like this was just a .dll in the game's folder I doubt any of this would ever be a issue.

Same with online activation, fine, just make sure it gracefully handles prolonged periods of being offline after installation and before the activation. And get rid of install limits and if a limit, then allow people to "free" their activation so they can re-activate it on their other machines etc.

Here's some good news for ya people

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technol ... rom-d.html

I grabbed Spore, even knowing of the DRM, cause I knew they were gonna get their pants sued off and I'd get into the eventual class-action lawsuit. lol

On the opposite side, this idiocy just guaranteed that I will never buy it. EA & Sony can both go to hell.

....but Call of Duty 4 was pretty good....

*pouts*

I Beta tested Spore quite some time ago (relived boredom of normal lack of gaming). Fun game. Badley addictive (like crack some times) I dont play it now though (even though I had a free full version of the game yadda yadda). Too much bullshit to go thru and crap loaded on my pc I didnt want.

Seems to be the way online games are heading twards (and some offline ones as well). Dare Imention my copy of Final Fantasy online I have...and still cant figure out how to unsubscribe the monthly fees to? What in the fuck was all this crap they loaded on my PC? do I really need all of it to run the bloody game?

Meh.
