aotradeskills.com is infected

Postby Xyphos » Sat Aug 09, 2008 11:04 am

Greetings from Bitbucket on RK1 - A player who is solely responsible for the anti-cred seller spam bots "TermsOfSrvc" and "NoCredSpam" on both RK1 and RK2

I'm here to announce and warn players of AO that the website aotradeskills.com is indeed infected with 2 account stealing viruses - of which these cred sellers use to get their supply to sell.

more information can be found on the official AO forums.

Please, if any DJ would like to sound this alarm on air... do so.
because I know you guys aired alot of ads for this site in the past - so many players trust it and get infected

Point the first: Quit scaremongering.

Point the second: The thread on the official forums makes no mention of this piece of javascript being responsible for any 'stolen accounts' by credit spammers (of which you have such a loathing that you created a bot that is as much of a nuissance to most players as the original credit spammers were in the first place.

Point the third: Oh why bother, you won't listen anyway

I dunno, i think that it is nice that some one is taking the time to warn other about a issue and the simple fact is he might have more info then others.

I feel the same Rev. So, it may not be as bad as he is leading it to be. I'd rather people have a bit of a scare and it turn out to be nothing then people not be warned about the situation and it turn out that it indeed was a nasty virus.

I'm sure more people are going to look into the issue and fill us in. In the meantime its nice to know that we need to be careful if using the site.

Don't be so quick to judge Ceryn. I know that account stealing from websites is a very common problem in WoW. Everyone knows at least one person who it has happen to. It seems that Xyphos has pretty solid evidence against them.

I personally like the "Nocredspam" bot, and use it on my toons. I'd love to kick those cred spammers to Jupiter because they are annoying and it's handy to not have to worry about them while trying to sell something on the shopping channel.
I also am checking my computer for the issues from the AOtradeskills.com. I've been having some compy issues and just used that site about 3-4 weeks ago. It's handy to know there's a possible issue with it and that I may be infected. I am by no means going to freak out, but it doesn't hurt to have all the info. Thank you Xyphos for the information.

There is definitely something wrong with the site.

A few weeks back the "forwarding" site (without the /dnn at the end) produced a bunch of junk and locked my browser. With the /dnn suffix, my virus scanner deleted a number of javascript exploits.

Given how long it's been around, I would certainly give the benefit of the doubt to the author that the problems are not his doing. But I also will avoid going back until I hear that it has a clean bill of health.

After doing some hard looking around I've discovered that part of my problem is the worms from AOtradeskills.com. I have the very same things as reported on the site. If Xyphos hadn't posted the information I would have never known. Thanks again Xyphos!

Thanks for the warning, Xyphos
I got the impression that most players like the nocreditspam bot, so keep up the good work

Fixed

Postby Cybershead » Mon Aug 11, 2008 10:47 pm

Well i am not sure what virus it was but i found some script in my pages that was Mail wear script. I have deleted all that was on the site and had an all clear from my server provider, i have also clensed my pages and have a tempory main page until i have finished V4. I am sorry if anyone got infected by mail ware, but the simplisity of V4 will make it simple for me to detect. I was told by my server that the program should have been flagged by any Anti virus program so it should not have effected to many people. I do hope that AOTS will continue to help everyone enjoy there time in Anarch-Online a bit more.

Postby Cybershead » Tue Aug 12, 2008 5:10 pm

Ok i seam to get the virus now, I cannot get it removed so i am taking the site down for good. It is pointless trying to battle against someone who keeps getting into the site. Sorry if people had been infected.

I'm really sorry to hear that your taking the site down hun. Have you considered asking one of the many techy people who play AO to have a look and see if they can help you get it removed for good? It would be such a shame to lose your site just because of one asshole.....

Maybe try having it up under a secret name with a few techy friends around first and make it safe then put it back up properly.

That's a damn shame Cyberhead. Your site has helped so many people. I'm sorry to hear that you are unable to get it fixed. Surely there is someone that can help?
