winter finally reared its ugly head. yesterday at around 12pm (noon) it started thunderstorming. it was 66 at 5am, dropped to around 40-45 by 1pm and the cold front was here. the temp kept falling all threw the day and night. the rain turned to sleet during the early evening. when i woke up at noon i had a hell of a time getting into my truck, it had a layer of ice over all of it. this pic was taken at around 4pm today. the ice you see on the windshield is new, it was cleaned of at noon, so thats 3 hrs of accumilation. when i took this it was still raining down with snow/sleet. why couldnt i live in hawaii?
Image
this one taken at about 630pm. you can see the snow is starting to accumilate.
Image
taken at 10pm. still coming down...man sometimes i hate having to work outdoors for a living...doh!

the last three are from when i woke up. the upper two are from 6am, the bottom most one is about 730am. you can see the amount of snow was fairly decent. this about double what we got all last year.

We've been hit pretty bad in St. Louis also...but, it's more an ice storm than a lot of snowfall. A lot of folks are without power. Mine has been flickering, but so far so good...

it was trip to watch a thunderstorm with all of its awesome lightning turn into a wintery mix then finally to snow. it was a huge system. i heard from deca that chigago is getting alot of slush...all three of our towns are getting it from the same system i think.

Damnit, I want snow as well! One should think that since I live in the frozen north (read: Norway), there would be snow here. But noooOOOOooo...we have 12c outside right now, and rain.

Gimme snow, damnit! Snow and -20c :D

Yeah we got a little snow too.. But of course this is Dallas, and it won't stay long.

We did get some good use out of the fireplace though!

Here is a picture from yesterday before it all came down.. It ended up just over the grass (you could still see the tips of the grass)

I was hoping to get some snow. I miss drivin my Jeep in it hehe. All that storm is bringing is really heavy winds, rain and some thunderstorm (which I love) so its not all bad. Good luck and safe driving to those that have lots of snow/ice.

No time to wait for the post! This calls for a big ass catapult capable of firing 50 tonnes of snow on a precise course across the Atlantic!

Ours is already melted... all that is left is the sand/salt mix on the bridges and overpasses... It just doesn't last long when it gets here... Oh well.. Iwill see plenty of snow when I go to PA for Christmas this year!

All we got over here was rain and a 30 degree drop in tempetature. So it went from nicec and sunny, to sunny and cold as hell. Snow would be nice, and it rarely snows here. Not sure where the front is now exactly, but we might be getting hit with snow sooner or later.

Here's a little taste on how it looked here last winter. Of course, two days after this piccy was taken, we got another two feet of snow, topping things off at just over 7 feet. FUN!!!!

Hoping for this to happen again THIS winter, but so far it's looking grim. December 3rd, +8 degrees celcius. *curses profusely*

oh man... I've had snow like that before when I lived in Colorado briefly during my 8th grade year... We had about 3 feet solid on the ground, and I went to walk through it in the backyard and couldn't really get anywhere because of it... Had a little pomeranian at the time too... he didn't like having to go out in it to go to the bathroom! I wouldn't either!

It sure is fun to get snowed in sometimes though!

Actually the photo Mivat showed is not being snowed in.

It's what at least I (and many other Norwegian's) would call a truly white xmas.

We're also petty good at keeping traffic moving despite such amounts of snow, obviously there is a limit to how much snow we can push per day from the roads but... We find it cozy with this much snow.

Knee high snow just rocks, snow trucks and tractors are usually very early out so it's not that much issue getting around. Some of the people living in the south of Norway is a bit less enthusiastic sometimes though.

The optimal is as much snow as in Mivat's photo just before xmas, with light snow in the following days after xmas, then a heavy dose of new snow right before new year eve, and rinse and repeat throughout the rest of the winter. Officials prefer it that way too as it's easy to maintain roads if it occur like that.

my daughter and went to stay with my mom and dad saturday night. when i got there dad was freaking out cuz he had water running down the inner cieling and dripping on the inside of the window. i grabbed a ladder and went outside and climbed up on the roof to gather clues. i roofed his house when he built it about 12-15 years ago, so i knew it wasnt the roof. when i got up there i figured it out. the snow/ice was completely covering 3 roof vents. the heat from the house was melting the snow and ice and the water was allowed to run right in threw the vent. it was tricky, but i managed to get to the ridge and work the snow off with a shovel. it was crazy in a stupid way, and i didnt like it at all, but i felt i needed to be the one to do it, since dad is scared of heights, and im not.

also, in town there is a resturant called the butchers block. mom and dad where supposed to go to a x-mas party there on friday. they got the call that night that the roof had caved in from too much snow. although we in this area have had alot more snow than this, it has been quite awhile since weve got it like this. the main problem is the 1-1.5 inches of ice we got before the snow. this is the 3rd day since the precip, and the roads on all the side streets are still wasted with packed snow and ice. dad lives in the country, and out there its even worse. i dont have much trouble getting around, cuz im not afraid, somewhat crazy, and know how to drive on it. but many people are afraid of it and dont need to be out there, and they are ones that end up being the X-factor. they are the ones that create problems. lol. sounds brutal, but very true.

Very true about the X-factor though! Where I'm from most people know how to drive on snow covered roads. But if you go into the city.....watch out! haha
I had a 78 toyota tercell hatchback and I could trudge my way to school in 1 foot of snow just fine. I loved that thing on icy roads...soooo much fun!! :)

well, on thursday about 10pm it started raining. it was 60% all day, so i was lucky it waited til that night to start since i work outside. fri was a 100% and when i awoke it was drizzling pretty hard. i had to wait til 4pm to get paid. at 3pm i decided to go pay my bills and pick autumn up from daycare before it got bad. at that time it was sleeting. the week end forecast was for wintery mix and they couldnt have predicted it better. by 330pm it was nasty. at 4pm i met mt boss and was already hard to stay on the road. all i had to do from there was hit the bank and go to walmart to stock up on enough food to make it threw the week end. unfortunately everyone was thinking the same way.
i guess theres something about wintery weather that makes all the old people freak out. wal mart was completely out of bananas, milk, bottled water, and alot of other crap i wanted. i think the old folks were afraid we were goin be snowed in for a month or something. luckily all the young hotties were out. that place was crawling with good looking bitches. i couldnt believe the lines, it was way worse than the days before xmas. when we got out to the parking lot we had about an inch more ice. the roads were crazy slick. luckily i had an extra 200 lbs of logs in the rear end of my truck, so i had alot more traction than during the last storm.
on saturday my fixer friend (capitalj) called and asked if we wanted to go to toysrus and the mall with him and his son. he drives a pimp daddy dodge full size 4x4. we went, it was fairly empty and we let the kids run. it was the perfect way to remedy the kids cabin fever. his truck did awesome on the ice. he put it in 2 wheel drive to show the differance between it and 4 by. it was night and day. anyhow, we (autumn and i) just went to the laundromat and back and the roads are still nuttier than a squirrel turd and weve got a 100% for more today.
hopefully this crap will bypass STL so Veldron doesnt lose his power, lol. good luck Veld. ill try to get some pics a bit later, my spawn is demanding eggs and bacon, and who am i to deny?
