Vamp

Ok, so sometimes when I get bored, I draw *cough*shameless plug *cough*. So lately I've been trying to draw vampires. It occurred to me that the essence of the vampire is in the fangs. I figured if I can capture the fangs, the rest should come easy. So this is what I came up with. Now I don't claim to be an artist. This is just a hobby. But I would be curious to hear what some other people think of this.

I must admit I don't really see a fang. To me it looks more like a flower (blood lilly?) or maybe a torch, but what do I know.

How did you draw the picture? Using pen and paper or a tablet and computer? It looks beautiful, but like I said, a fang is not the first thing that springs to my mind when I look at the picture.

I can see where you have been aiming to when making that picture (if i understood right the fang is in the middle). And i definetly got the gore effect upon the first glance i had on it. I just think the fang is way too big, its too massive and it makes it hard to picture what the painting really
is about.

I had a quick look see on your other paintings and that Shadow of Death piece WOW  !!! Now thats a painting i like, and in my humble opinnion if you want to paint vampires put more of the same style used with Shadow of Death in them. Vampires live in and from the darkness, they feed in the night, when you keep that in mind i'm sure you'll make more great pieces.

I see the tongue kinda, don't see the fang (maybe the fang is black? ), but it really looks much more like something liquid to me coming out of what looks like the bottom part of an open mouth...

either that or a bunny

Thanks for all the feedback. This is the first version. I actually added the mouth around it later to give it perspective. but that seems to have failed. Does it come across any better on its own?

Lets see, more idividual responses (I don't have time now to quote, so you'll just have to figure out who I'm responding to on your own :p ):

Its supposed to be that big. Its a study of the fang.

I use an old program called Corel Painter Classic along with a Wacom Tablet and Pen. I know there's better things out there, but since I only get the urge to go from pencil and paper to online every once in a blue moon, I haven't really seen the need to invest in something better.

A bat? Is that a vampire pun? Perhaps a wooden stake would be more appropriate :p

I was hoping for a gore factor. It should look like a recently and well used fang.

That's all I have time for now. Thanks again for your responses and let me know what you think of this one as well. :)

I'm thinking that you might want to try making it more straight. The curve is what threw me off. Very few animals have teeth like that... With the slight exception of an alephant, I can't think of one actually... The style is rather cool, stick with that, but try making the canite (fang) straighter. For gore effect, I've always found that haveign a tongue licking the tip of the fang with a single droplet of blood running over the edge, to be of high effect!... But that's just me...

Better, make it less triangular... Let it go a lil' further down... Then end it... A lil' like a pen... Think it'll look better... Style is pretty coo' tho, a bit o' work, and it should turn out pretty good!

Thanks a lot Oddy!! Is it selfish of me to be glad now that you didn't get that job?

Anyway, I'm going to work on it more over the weekend when I have more time.

I appreciate everyone's input on this. Someday I may even draw the rest of the face. :) :p

As far as artwork goes I like the first one best. You seem to be trying a bit to hard to get a point across rather then letting people see what they see hun. I love the first painting you displayed with the mouth around. It just seems to flow a lot smoother then the others. Its just what it is and nothing more.

Good abstract art is hardly ever the same for every person and thats what is so great about it. People take thier own views and experiences and come up with what the picture is about. I personaly say you should go with the first one and rename it so people aren't looking for a fang but rather the picture for what it is. A great work of art.
