Katsucon X Photos -- As Promised!

Me, chipmunk cheeked, drugged out of my mind, covered in Boogiepop Phantom. *cry* I look so fat. The person who took that photo is going to be punished.

The very best Serras Victoria I have seen at a Katsucon. She was very gracious about surrenderring her gun prop (VA gun sillouhette laws forbid her to carry that beauty -- pooh pooh on the govt!)

There are more photos, but these were my absolute favorites. Except for the one of me. Which totally sucks. But I promised. So now you have to look at me and go "Dude. She goes out in public looking like that?"

I was kind of sad. There were a LOT of FLCL cosplayers running around the halls, but most of them were really poorly done knockoffs of the alien chick (don't recall her name). You'd think that SOMEone would have done a nice job of her at a top-notch con like Katsu. But no.

At least there weren't a million really bad sailor moons running loose, like most anime cons. I wish I had had more time roving with Cam's digital during peak hall-crawl hours. The attendees at Katsucon go to a LOT of time, expense and effort on their cosplay, and it shows. The cosplay show alone is worth the price of admission. I particularly love when, like this year, an entire group gets together and does a theme. We had two sets that pulled that off this year, one doing the full cast of Hack/Sign and the other as the major characters of Inuyasha. And it was cosplay done WELL. Which is just stunning if you are fortunate enough to see it live.

LOL Otori! She was NOT the hawtest chick at the con either. People have this completely wierd idea that all otaku are male, grossly overweight and mindblowingly underbathed. Truth is, 70% of the females that show up are GORGEOUS and 50% of the men are pretty edible. Most of them bathe once daily. If it weren't so, I'd never be able to go to an anime convention, since I have this thing about good hygeine and a very sensitive sense of smell, despite all the myths about smokers losing their olfactory acuity.

I really don't understand why so many people shun anime conventions based on aesthetic...

It is mainly that they consider Cons, like comic cons, and similar events to be held by only the most diehard, and fanatic fans...who often will be considered by the stereotype to be overweight and ugly.


No real convincing them, they are often people who are just close-minded on it, or even enjoy anime, just don't talk about it or let it out of the closest.

Awsome pics though, you look very rawralicious in that boogypopphantom Cosplay Saint. Yummy!

Ichi, I look like a deranged chipmunk. My face is STILL all swelled up from the oral surgeon. I'm actually tempted to wait for the swelling to go away and then put my costume back on to get some DECENT photos of what it's SUPPOSED to look like taken by one of my friends.

That was the greatest disappointment for me. I spent so long planning and fabricating this costume only to have the look ruined by my face swelling up so badly. Everything else I have no real complaint about. I knew I was going to be either in a lot of pain or too drugged to really do much... but my face... I chose to do Boogiepop because I have the long, clean-lined face that matches the character drawings very well. And all of that was ruined because my oral surgeon got snowed in at N.C. and couldn't reschedule my appointment until the damned day before convention.

No, I'm sorry that I have no photos of the pretty elves. I wanted pictures of them, but it's hard to get photos when you work security as part of the convention staff during the primetime. There were so many pictures I wanted but was unable to take. Some years are just like that though. I'm just happy that I was able to have a little bit of fun and get a few really choice shots instead of missing the whole thing or getting sick with the flu that was going around.

Even then Saintbootay, with the oral surgery, perhaps your being too...critical of yourself. The hair and hat mask the swelling if you think you have it, but I think I've only seen one pic of you before, and the swelling isnt that bad! But then again my eyes are delusional and very very tired, so I might have bad judgement. @_@

But don't worry, theres always Otakon, to show off your leet self.

And if I may be bold to ask. Can security ask the elves to let them search them? *Wink wink*

Perfectionist is one of my defining traits. Especially when applied to myself. So I'm always doomed to failure because I'm so not perfect. Oh the tragedy *staple hand to forehead!* Thank goodness I also have a sense of humor.

Otori and Decavolt, I want to have your mutant offspring. Stormtroopers are the uborz. Period. My love of stormtroopers was once so well known that the local science fiction society called my assistants "Sushi's Stormtroopers". Don't ask.
