This image is not animated at all, it's your eyes that makes it move. To make it all stop just stare at a specific location for a few seconds.

That thing is freakin awesome, Im gonna have some fun with that. if i Focus on one in the middle they turn clockwise then if i focus on one on the left they turn counter clockwise, but if you stare at one for awhile they all stop. UBER!

Its something to do with the center of it. When I scrolled down to not show any of the centers of each circle, it seemed to stop moving, or at the very least, move barely at all.

if u shrik it, it'll stop aswell.

Okay weird... and for a moment I thought it was animated, but it's a .jpg and it doesn't animate. It has to do something with the way that we as humans see a whole bunch of objects on the screen at the same time... owwwie though.

Hmmm, Nex, what was your first clue?

The reason that the circles seem to rotate is that different wavelengths of light hit your eyes at slightly different angles. If you will notice that the circles going yellow-black-blue-white all go clockwise, while all the circles going blue-black-yellow-white all seem to be going counterclockwise.

Also you’ll notice that if you look directly at a circle that it seems to almost stop moving. This is because when you look directly at the images, the angle that the different colors hit your eyes isn’t as noticeable as when they come in from the side.

You’ll also notice if you download the image and make it into a grayscale image that the circles continue to rotate. This is because it’s the contrast in the colors and not so much the colors them selves that make it rotate.

As for why when it is shrunk down it stops rotating, this is because much of the detail is lost. Notice that even when it is enlarged the centers seem to move slower than the outsides of the circles. This is because it starts to get small enough that the wavelengths start to merge together.
