[Music] Music exposure

Postby Caliana » Mon Sep 03, 2012 6:11 am

Trying to compile a list of artists and songs to suggest/request from my personal collection, or from things I've bookmarked, liked, or put on my "to purchase" list. Some of them I'm sure people already have, some I'm not sure how to fit them in the listed genre repertoire of some of the DJs, so I figured I'd try to sort them out a bit before I made requests.
Figured making a single post here and updating it might be handy to organize, and it could be fun to cross pollinate with the other forum goers.

Synthpop:
Ayria - Post Apocalyptic Girl

Electronic:
Blind Passengers - Insane
Blue Stahli - Ultranumb
- Anti You
S3RL - Numb (kind of a dubstep of Hollywood Undead's "Young" sped up, and w/o the chorus)
Little Boots - Remedy
Mike Oldfield - Moonlight Shadow

Rock/ Alternative Rock:
A Perfect Circle - Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm of the War Drums
Ellegarden - Addicted
Pain - Bye/Die
Die Mannequin - Do It Or Die
Thousand Foot Krutch -Step To Me
-Bring Me To Life
Thousand Foot Krutch - War of Change
Rise Against - Satellite
- Whereabouts Unknown
(seriously.. almost anything by them)
30 Seconds To Mars: Edge of the Earth
Advent - Better Than OK
Nightwish - Escapist
Adelita's Way - Invincible
Cold Drive - Rise of the Broken
Decyfer Down - Crash
36 Crazyfists - Waiting on a War

Industrial/Alternative Metal/ Goth Metal/ etc
RTPN - Unnamed
- Awakening
Abney Park - Holy War
Sirenia - The Other Side
Angelspit - 100 percent
Sad Alice Said - Open your eyes

RnB/Pop:
Rihanna - Shut Up and Drive
Darren Hayes - Casey
R&B/Pop mashup amv(various): http://youtu.be/BuhQ2rnNKOU

Christian Rock/Pop (upbeat)
Britt Nicole - Welcome To the Show
Superchick - Stand in the Rain (bah! someone deleted the really good AMV I had)
Toby Mac -Ignition (awkward title screen, but one of the best AMVs I've seen)
Manafest - No Plan B
(wouldn't have thought it, but that's what this is claimed to be under via Artist Wiki  )
Demon Hunter - Fire To My Soul (among many others!)
(^Metal ! )
Rebecca St. James - God Help Me

Alternative Indie
Woodkid - Iron

Cover songs: (not going to separate by genre, just going to lump these together)
Verse City - Tik Tok Rok (cover of Ke$ha's "Tik Tok")
A Static Lullaby -Toxic (Brit Spears cover)

Japanese Metal:
Onmyouza - Kokui no tenyo
-Ryu no Kumo wo Erugotoshi

Ska (I need to dust this genre off, can't remember any but RBG and Bosstones)
Reel Big Fish
Brown Eyed Girl
Hungry Like a Wolf
Thank You For Not Moshing
She Has A Girlfriend Now

Less Than Jake
All Best My Friends Are Metal Heads
She's Gonna Break Soon
Anchor

(a chunk of the links are going to be in AMV form, mostly because these are coming from my AMV faves folder. I'll pull straight up "lyrics" or official vids if I have to look up stuff from my personal collection.)
(Another note: I'm looking up these bands to find what they're tagged as genres. Please don't hurt me if genre tags suck. This is why I'm helpless at genre

Edit #3 9/31 Realized a few of the entries were only half typed, and sans quick link. Fixed them all.. I hope
Almost forgot the Japanese Metal

found a more upbeat song of RTPN (only recently stumbled upon them, so I don't know what their "best" stuff is yet) This one has no vocals, but it's pretty upbeat :D

No vocals, but nice guitar + drums :D

These 2 are AMVs just for Cherri, though the music could also be added to this list :D

"4ever" by The Veornicas http://youtu.be/U1qlov_N9m4
"Life is Beautiful (Christmas in Hell mix)" Sixx AM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KjX-P8N ... ure=colike
(cannot find the version I thought I had bookmarked for some reason)
Edit: narp, here it is. Literally bookmarked it (must've been in my pre faving age)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMJfEkMW ... ure=colike

Goofy song by the same people who did "less than three":
http://youtu.be/v7XoC4Tf_X8

Also: I don't know what your threshold of tolerance for rap is... but I still wanna see the first anime in this video (Sword of the Stranger):

This is both a list update, and another AMV for Cherri :D
I had this amv bookmarked, and didn't even realize what band it was. I'm gonna have to go find this song. Thought I had their albums

Oh, I found that Blue Stahli's website has a few freebie songs (Amazon.com used to have a few of their songs for free, but that must've been temp, as I can't find them anymore).

http://www.bluestahli.com/site/?page_id=302

Even though the acoustic "Scrape" isn't his typical electronica/insdustrial gig, I really like it.

What I've watched so far has convinced me of three things:

1) I need to watch Black Lagoon.
2) I should at least give Eureka 7 a try because it looks interesting.
3) I'm much more likely to watch a song on youtube if it's accompanied by an AMV.

:D

Adult Swim just started playing Eureka 7 (they should be on ep 3 this weekend I believe). It's not the greatest anime, but I liked it :) I've only seem clips of Black Lagoon, but it looks awesome, and it kind of twisted :D

Has anyone heard of this band? The video looks kind of familiar for some reason, but I don't recognize the song.

I have not, but I plan to try to find that song and add it. It's mellower than what I tend to play, but I dig it.

The weird thing is, I could swear I've seen this video years ago (dreadlock girls playing keyboard tends to stick in one's mind), but this song supposedly came out in 2011.

 *Twilight Zone music*

My eyes caught on "Fat Lip" and I thought of http://youtu.be/SK_WfF6hf2E So good. Wish I could find a better quality video. Edit: Eh this one is better quality graphics but I don't care for the remix compared to the original.

This ought to keep you occupied for a few minutes. In terms of genre, with the exception of Trip Hop at the end, I wasn't that specific. The difference between Rock/Metal and Alt. Rock was my willingness to request them at an Ashval show. I know what happens to people who request Veruca Salt at an Ashval show.

I did these pretty much alphabetically, but let me commend to you Bitter:Sweet (very sexy), and Darling Violetta. As to the Irish and Spanish songs...there are more to those, just not in my iTunes library. I need to look them up on my Pandora stations.

I tried to mark any songs that I know are NSFW as such, but I may have missed some. Be forewarned.

Rock/Metal
Alice Cooper & Rob Zombie – Hands of Death (Burn Baby Burn)
Amy Lee – Sally’s Song
Apocalyptica feat. Brent Smith – Not Strong Enough
Apocalyptica feat. Gavin Rossdale – End of Me
Apocalyptica feat. Till Lindemann – Helden (David Bowie - Heroes cover)
Apocalyptica feat. Lacey – Broken Pieces
Delain - April Rain
Delain - Stay Forever
Delain - Invidia
Delain feat. Marco Hietala - Control the Storm
Evanescence – The Change
Garbage – Blood for Poppies
Korn feat. Amy Lee – Freak on a Leash
Korn feat. Skrillex - Get Up! (NSFW)
Marilyn Manson – If I Was Your Vampire
Motley Crüe - Saints of Los Angeles
Skindred – Nobody (I know, this is flirting with destruction, but it's angry enough)
Three Days Grace - Riot
Within Temptation feat. Anneke van Giersbergen - Somewhere - Anneke does not feature in the studio version, sadly. For obvious reasons, it's hard to get a good version of this on YouTube, but I really really really love this song, especially the sequence beginning at 1:57.

Alt Rock
Alkaline Trio – Over and Out (Renholder Mix)
AWOLNATION – Sail - Even if you hate this song, the last minute and a half of this music video is hilarious.
Ben Moody feat. Anastasia – Everything Burns
Chris Cornell – You Know My Name
Darling Violetta – Awesome
Darling Violetta – I Want to Kill You - Be forewarned the first 1:25 of this song is completely different from the following. Am I the only one who finds this song sexy?
Darling Violetta – Bardot Barbituate
Darling Violetta – Spoiled & Rotten
Darling Violetta – Cocoon
Darling Violetta – Jessamine
Darling Violetta – Star Shoes (Love is Everything)
Darling Violetta – A Smaller God
Daughtry feat. Slash – What I Want
Jack White & Alicia Keys – Another Way to Die
My Chemical Romance – Welcome to the Black Parade
Sixx A.M. – Lies of the Beautiful People
Trans-Siberian Orchestra – Carmina Burana
Trust Company – Downfall
U2 – Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
Veruca Salt – Shutterbug
Veruca Salt – Volcano Girls

Country (but not in a bad way...)
Jace Everett – Bad Things

Pop
David Bowie feat. Maynard James Keenand & John Frusciante – Bring Me the Disco King (Loner Mix) - Despite the editing of the music video, this is from the Underworld soundtrack and not The Queen of the Damned.
P!nk – So What
Republica – Ready to Go

Dubstep(ish)
Blue Foundation – Eyes on Fire (Zeds Dead Remix) - Very sexy
Kid Sister – Pro Nails (Rusko Remix)
Nero – Me & You (Dirtyphonics Remix)
Puscifer – Lighten Up Francis (JLE Dub Mix) - Sexy song, video's...well....
Skrillex – Kill Everybody (Bare Noize Remix)

Electronic
Elastica - Connection
Filter & The Crystal Method – (Can’t you) Trip Like I Do

Hip Hop(ish)
Flobots – Handlebars
Puff Daddy feat. Jimmy Page – Come with Me NSFW

Irish
The Dubliners – Rocky Road to Dublin

Spanish/Spanish-Influenced
Alejandra Guzman – Lipstick - My wife judged me when she heard this.

Trip Hop - Trip Hop is nothing at all like hip hop
Bitter:Sweet – The Bomb
Bitter:Sweet – Drink You Sober NSFW
Bitter:Sweet – Don’t Forget to Breathe
Bitter:Sweet – The Mating Game
Bitter:Sweet – Dirty Laundry
