Nice find. Reminds me of little musician's device that looks exactly like it. Wish I could remember the name of it.

Right underneath the matrix is a link to an even more advanced tool, complete with beatbox, synth, and loads of effects. Not to mention the ability to record.

There are ten different "tracks", but only one or two notes playing at any time.

I did ponder the idea of using every single note thus sixteen "tracks" but it would have sounded very messy since the sequencer only allows 16 steps long song.

Each "track" or note key/row are playing their own melody,
so there is actually 10 different melodies that you hear blended together as one polyphonic melody.

This way of composing is at the heart of Tracking, which folks like me and Tarryk are very familiar with ;)
