AO party in Mich??

Postby Mynka » Sat Nov 26, 2005 5:24 pm

So, I've been thinking about having an AO party at my house.
I live about 10-15 mins south of Detroit. Right off I-75, and very close to 94 and I-275.
(Yes, this makes me an offical geek.)
So, who would actually come if I did this? :D

I would but I am on the other side of Michigan from Detroit. Southwest Michigan for the win!

Kira and I are possibilities depending on timing. (Neither of us have a ton of vacation time available and need to start banking some for our honeymoon) If it was an extended weekend sorta thing with some notice, we might be able to pull it off. :)

Obviously depends on time, as I have limited vacation days as well, but I'm probably the best contender due to distance. I'd certainly be a good possibility attendee. :)

We have a spare room with a couch and two fold out bed couches in the livingroom so, I don't see why
we couldn't do an extended weekend thing. I do have twins that are 6. I could probably get a sitter for
both nights if we made plans enough in advance. I say lets try to set something up!
(w00t for your honeymoon saving!! *sends good honeymoon saving vibes your way* :D )

*she nestles down so snug in her bed, with visions of a bunch of computers
sitting around the livingroom dancing in her head*
Sorry all those that can't make it.
I was talking about it to my cousin that doesn't even play ao and he was saying
how sweet it sounded and asking... "So, how much is it to play that game?"
He's mainly into x-box stuff... for now. hehe.

The next step is figuring out when is best for everyone! Veldron and Tarryk have vacation time they have to work around so if they could possibly check what would be good times for them then I could start planning. Also, with the kids gone both nights it leaves two extra twin size beds besides what I listed earlier for people to crash on. So, I'll be sitting here watchng the clock untill I hear from Tarryk and Veldron. *nudge nudge.. wink wink*

p.s. Dirk, unless you plan on getting a sitter and bringing the wifey along. I will need a permssion slip from your wife that states that she has no problem being left at home with the kids. :P (sorry, I'm a mom of two myself so us moms have to stick together)
(the only other thing i can come up with if anyone else has kids they need to bring is that we could throw all the kids in my boys room for thier own little slumber party but then we can't be as wacky and swear as much as we want and all that fun stuff. Which is the reason I plan on getting sitters for those nights. I'll leave it up to the majority ;) )

How soon are you looking at doing this, Mynka? If it's anytime before the holidays are over, there's no way I can pull it off financially (just spent $200 on a new tire, owe $450 in personal property taxes and the dreaded X-mas expenses).

I've heard winters in Michigan are less than fun. If we were to drive, that's a major factor for me. I'd prefer to fly, but it'll depend on money. Even if we do fly, not sure we want to arrive to 3 feet of snow.

If you're looking early spring (Marchish?), that I could probably do. Anything sooner...I'd be pretty unlikely. And, I can't committ to anything till Kirasha updates with her availability. I believe her vacation time situation is stickier than mine. (state employee = flexiblity)

That's about all I can add for ya, atm. :)

March, for the record, is pretty much the worst month for winter weather in Michigan. The west side of the state and further north are the real weather-whores though. The Detroit area doesn't get as much snow and, except for during and right after really bigass storm, there usually isn't much snow on the ground beyond a light covering.

Don't remind me of the snow that the west side of Michigan gets. :(

Bah! That's not much snow at all ;) Let's take more photos in March when it's up past the windows and you can't tell where the yard ends and the road starts. Don't mind me though... I grew up in Traverse City so the snow down here doesn't feel like much more than a dusting.

We could wait untill April even if that fits better for everyone. I think the more time to plan the better it could turn out. May or even June would be fine and I could probably supply the food for the weekend if we plan that far ahead. You guys would only have to deal with travel cost and alcohol and possibly getting dragged out to city club but only one night and only if everyone wants to go. :D
So, I say we keep in touch and try to plan something for when it starts warming up. That way we can bring out the BBQ grill too!

Sounds awesome!!

Hm...City club still open? Haven't been there in years. I heard it's a lot different than it used to be back then, but even that was a years-ago rumor. I expected they'd have totally shut down by now.
