To pay.. or not to pay

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeell.. I just saw that Funcom is extending the free time to 2007 OMG!!

And I can't decide whether to pay for the expansions/subscription or not..

I mean.. If I do decide to do that, will I be able to go back to not paying, and no expansions? Or do I have to pay from there on out?

Anyone know?

You have to pay from that moment forward

Sucks, but once you're locked in you can't get out.

Ah well, I will get more used to the game first.

You can, of course, stop paying and then create a NEW froob account, but obviously it will be entirely new so you won't be able to use any of the existing characters on your main account.

If you decide not topay tho can make a froobie acct and transfer anything from your paid acct over so even tho your characters are ne you wont be going in empty handed and Makeing Noobies is fun ask Tarryk he rerolls all the time *big SMIles*

Josh, I would say get used to the game, and get through a good portion of the current content. AO along has a whole lot of features and support and things to do, with the rest of the content added in, it's almost overkill (even for me, and I've been in the game almost 3 years). Enjoy what you have in the game, you still have TOTW to experience and soon the Foreman's Office. Don't forget that along the way you can do a ton of missions.

I'd say pay if you can afford it, don't if you can't. But if you are still very new to the game it doesn't hurt to get used to the basic facts of life on Rubi-Ka without all the axtras (read: Expansions)

Oh-ho-ho boy. You ARE just gettin' started, aren't you. I don't have the time to get into the answers, although I'm sure someone else will very soon here.

I'll just say hold off on the decision to get expansions until you've learned more about the world of Rubi-Ka and the tons of things you can do in it. Unless of course you are already hooked and you'll be playing for a long time, in which case the extra bonuses that those expansions give you might be worth the purchase now (especially Shadowlands).

In either case, have fun. And welcome to Rubi-Ka, the land of pure cyberpunk addiction. :)

Lemme tell you a little about my history..
I've been playing MMORPGs since 6th grade..

Starting with www.sgalaxies.com on to www.nexustk.com and www.darkages.com The only one I really liked was Shattered, because it was sci fi.. but it was too strategic for me.

I liked Dark Ages of camelot, because of the gfx and size, but it was fantasy and it got old fast.

YEEARS later after Ultima online, Shadow bane, and countless others.. I came across Face of Mankind, which was sci fi, but first person shooter.. and that got boring. Then I hit AO which is a culmination of EVERYTHING i want in a RPG.

1. Sci fi
2. Immense
3. Housing area (appartments will do fine :P)
4. Vehicles (Yalmaha)
5. Pets (Yup)
6. Leveling system (duh)
7. Cheap (its free)
8. kickass community... Nice to meet you all ^_^

So yeah, I plan on being here for a LOOONNGG time to come.

And as to how long I've been here.. Started playing sunday-ish.

I've already been on noob island three times (diff chars) made 8k on it on my latest char.. Been a Clanner, and an Omni.. Been to subways, used a Wompah.. Mished for a cool helmet with good stats.

And I'm level 13 at the time of this post.. Probably 17 by the end of the day.

my current claim to fame, I've taken 5 shadows (orange rating) at a time ^_^ and won.. lol

but thats only because Nexeus and Krazyglue are the coolest people ever :P

Judging by your track record in games so far and your list of desired in a game, I have to agree: I think you've finally found a place to call home as an MMO gamer. :)

Which is awesome to hear, and I'm glad you're liking it so far. :D

I'll just sorta repeat what Nexeus said: Stick with your froobie account for a while, learn the ropes and experience the world (which could take months, perhaps even a year or more depending on how you pace yourself, Rubi-Ka is DEFINITELY a massive place), just remember to stop and smell the roses, don't burn yourself out powerlevelling.

Once you've gotten a good portion of the world under your belt, joined an org, rocked out in the missions and quests, and socialized at the hotspots for a while, you'll eventually be ready to move on. Where you go will almost certainly be decided entirely on how you've experienced things up to that point and how you want to move forward.

Notum Wars is the booster pack (that I think is automatically included with the purchase of either expansion) that ads PvP Tower Battles to the list of things you can do (org vs org strategic mass combat).

Alien Invasion is the expansion that allows full usage of org cities and massive strategic org vs. alien (PvE) encounters.

Shadowlands is the real gem of the lot (IMHO), adding an entire new parallel world to explore that exists alongside Rubi-Ka, as well as two new professions to play, 20 more levels to gain beyond the normal 200 cap, and a nearly uncountable amount of extra little bells and whistles that improve gameplay as you explore the new world (Composite Attribute Boost Nano <3!!).

Do you have a fr00b t-shirt Josh? Cause you know fr00bs aren't permitted to travel without wearing one. It's the law

and try to find that temple of three winds, it's got phat loot

i wasnt in ToTW for more than 3 minutes before I got sent back to reclaim

i am the opposite of Josh, and pretty much everyone.

AO is my first game, and Msice my first char, and not one reroll. Also i don't play alts because as a roleplayer i feel strange when on a different char, and i miss Msice's friends.

ToTW was created long after Msice was passed the level to access it. So no clue there. And just today i visited Foreman's office for the first time!!!

i am the perpetual noob, and unwaveringly clueless. For example... i had no idea i could be looted o.O

A warm welcome to Rubika Josh. i do hope you find a home here. And if you are ever in the market for an Omni role-play Org, check out our site www.societyofsalvation
Or just give me a call.
smiles

Thank you for the invitation Ms. Ice, however.. I think I have my mind set on GSP, whenever the option becomes available to me.

I would say I would join with an alt.. but, like you, I can never get into playing alts.. atleast not like a main.
