Nevermind, too late.

Just came home from the ER where I found out that my son broke his wrist. In December he had a cast taken off from his ankle, which he broke the prior November. In between he has also sprained his ankle and his wrist.

:(

I swear I think I'm going to make him start wrapping himself in cotton before leaving the house. :)

One week ago he fell off his skateboard and sprained his wrist. Last nght he's on his way home for dinner and is "accidentally" tripped by his friend (I think there is more to the story). He lands on his already weakened wrist, thus breaking it. I waited until today to actually bring him to the hospital because I wanted to believe that all he needed was an ice pack and a good night's rest. Silly me. :)

Though you want to talk about deja vu all over again! Here we were in the ER waiting for the X-ray results and I'm telling him that he's not in enough pain to have a broken wrist. He tells me to stop saying that because that's what I kept saying with his ankle when he broke it. Sure enough just like with the ankle the resident comes in to tell me he has a fracture. Just like with the ankle my reaction is "are you kidding me?" Just like with the ankle she had to actually show me the X-ray before I would believe it.

I just hope they don't start suspecting me of abuse.

Oooh j00 been beating on him eh

Sounds like fragile bones though to me, least from my track record. Never broke any and worst I ever did was sprain my ankle twice(once in grade school getting taken down akwardly in a fight & once jumping off a higher than normal 2nd floor roof wearing crappy shoes)

Hey Foxy, just get him drinking more milk, and then quite possibly, get him to do more physical excersizes (that doesn't include harming/breaking something)

You know Nex, I believe this is the second time you've mixed me up with Foxy. Not that I don't take that as a compliment. I just don't want to have to start calling you Decavolt or something. :P

I was just going to say, I feel complimented!

I guess we both have little ones that are in rehabilitation, though, only mine doesn't have any appendages to break!

Speaking as a biologist, though, it might not be that he's not getting enough calcium to have strong bones. There are other necessary vitamins and occassionally proteins missing in the blood that assist in binding the calcium to growing bones, creating very weak bones. My sister had bone problems growing up (from 3-5 years old for her), and she grew out of it with some treatment to assist in the binding of calcium. Keep an eye on his teeth, because my sister had to have her teeth re-enameled because of the same innate weakness. The doctors said that because of the missing proteins and vitamins necessary, it didn't matter how much calcium she was given, it was going right through her and not doing what it needed to.

His problem mostly is that he's an uncoordinated spaz. :)

I don't think its calcium intake that is the problem. Since the ankle break, we practically have been giving it to him IV: plenty of milk, daily vitamins, and green veggies. Still we go to get it casted in the orthopedic center on Friday morning. I'm going to ask them for their opinion on calcium absorption. Another factor is that he has a weakened left leg due to a neurological condition. He does have a limp and he does have a hard time recovering from being jostled. He tends to fall a LOT. so I think the odds are just against him as far as that's concerned. So I'm also going to ask them what can be done to help prevent future injuries.

any chance in him being a red head Vali? *giggles* just kidding, but me and my brother, both of us red heads, seems to sprain and bruise and fall apart more then the rest of my entire family, so I understand where your coming from *huggle you and your kiddo* Here's hoping he recovers soon :D maybe me and him can recover around the same time  oh well, back to hunting for stuff to make me feel better while i curse the hospital and its not giving me my turn outs for all those nicky tests *huggle again*

OH FFS!!! I'm so sorry Valli - I've done this soo many times my mind does this a lot actually. People with similliar personalities and vibes I mix up. There was a period of time that I called Veldron, Decavolt, and Decavolt, Veldron. ANother time I called Tasy and Trist each other. So it's not an insult in anyway, just my mind being an uncoordinated spaz (like your son).

btw... send him to some yoga or something.

My mom fell and broke her wrist this weekend. She said it didn't really hurt when it actually happened, and once she saw a doctor at the ER she had pain meds. It wasn't until they set the bones that she was really in a lot of pain. And, of course, my wonderfully intelligent sister who drove her decided that she needed to be in the room while it happened with my youngest nephew.
