How weird am I?

Postby Vallikat » Fri Apr 08, 2005 11:38 pm

So I posted a couple days ago that my sis and bro-in-law are buying a new house. SoI got to thinking and I realized what this means. Do you realize that this means no more big comfy couch!!???

See, here's the thing. Big comfy couch resides in my sister's basement. It almost didn't make it into the house in the first place. They actually had to remove the door jam and the railing to get it in, but they finally did manage to jam it in the house and set it up in the basement.

Now, it seems that over the years, almost every time I've gotten really, really, wasted, I've ended up passing out on big comfy couch. The really wonderful part of this is that the basement is cool and dark and isolated from the rest of the house and has the benefit of the porcelain alter at which I've done a great deal of Sunday worship. When I'm hung over, and I mean really, seriously, painfully hungover, there simply is no better place on earth. In fact, I refer to her basement and the big comfy couch therein as "hangover haven".

So I was thinking and I realized that with all the trouble they had getting big comfy couch into the house, there's no way on earth that they're going to go through the trouble of getting it out. Even if they did, there's just no real place for it in the new house. No more big comfy couch. No more hangover haven. It's the end of an era.

So does it make me really weird if I want my sister to have a big party before she moves so that I can pass out on big comfy couch and worship at their altar one last time? :)

Years ago, I'd get really drunk at a house some friends of mine had. Every time, I'd always pass out under their table in what was supposed to be a dining room. Of course, it wasn't a dining room, it was where they kept all of their live action role play and battle reenactment stuff.

I miss that table. :( It was just the right size for me to fit under, and the next day we'd play with swords in the backyard.

actually, Ms Valli that sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Part of the reason is, I did the same thing when I moved out of my old apartment. Had this nice big comfy hide-a-bed couch. we threw a big party the night before I had to move out. pissed off all the neighbors, and left the heavy ass couch in the apt. hehe

That's not wierdness. We're all creatures of habit under the skin. Hangover Haven and Big Comfy Couch were something stable you could depend on. Every bit of habit and stability we are forced to let go of becomes an event. The longer it's existed, and the farther back in your history it goes, the bigger the event.

But don't wory. You will look back decades from now and remember Big Comfy Couch and say to someone who knew it "remember when?" And that will happen long after you forget the name of the person you first snogged, what you were wearing when you graduated and your first adress.

I know because my Big Comfy Couch was known as the Cave and it lived under the house of the people who used to hold twice-yearly Sci-Fi conventions behind a wall of really scary sound and lighting equipment.
