A precious little girl walks into a pet shop and asks, in the sweetest little lisp, between two missing teeth, "Excuthe me, mithter, do you keep widdle wabbits?"

As the shopkeeper's heart melts, he gets down on his knees so that he's on her level and asks, "Do you want a widdle white wabbit, or a thoft and fuwwy bwack wabbit, or maybe one like that cute widdle bwown wabbit over there?"

She, in turn, blushes, rocks on her heels, puts her hands on her knees, leans forward and says, in a tiny quiet voice,

"I don't think my python weally gives a thit."

I AM that little girl! (Minus the lisp, of course. :D )

(I actually had a security alarm go off when I was leaving the mall through JC Penny's once, and I was carrying a "brown bag lunch" for my 8 large boas and pythons. The security guard asked me to open the bag and I said "I really don't think you want me to". He actually pulled out his baton and told me to set the bag on the ground and move away. He peeked in an his face went white when he saw a pile of 8 dead jumbo rats. I was then told that I was free to go (they had found stolen merchandise on the lady who was leaving right beside me) I laughed all the way home.)

Why don't you feed them living rats?

Feeding live rats to snakes one of the biggest mistakes you can make in herpetoculture. It teaches them to associate warmth and movement with food, which can make them aggressive, and a bite or a scratch from a rat can do serious damage to snakes, causing a wound that generally gets infected. Mice are less likely to do serious damage with their claws, but do give bad bites. Even my largest snakes were quite docile even during feeding time and they would almost take the rat right out of my hand. Several of my rescue cases came to me with terrible scars from being fed live prey and took months of training to take dead rats, and they were always more prone to striking at my hand during handling and feeding. In 10 years of caring for snakes, the only animals I've ever been bitten by were ones fed on live rats.

Aside from the animal's well being, it's also far easier to buy and store frozen rats in bulk, particularly if you're feeding several snakes.

I still think snakes and other creepy things should be left outside. Preferably far far away from me *shudders*

When I was 6 years old, before my Mom married her 2nd husband (Whom I call Dad), he had a snake. He had to go out of town for a week on a business trip, and he asked my mom to go to the pet store and get the snake some food. Well, my mom knew next to nothing about caring for a snake, and I was 6 so neither did I. Well, the snake was shedding its skin at the time mom went and picked up the "food item". The snake was basically blind due to shedding lol and the rat was alive, so the rat ate the snake instead. Mom went back over the Dads apartment to check on the snake, and saw a half eaten snake. She took the whole terrium (sp?) and threw it in the dumpster, dead snake, rat and all. lol
