Reporter: "You want me to cover a what?"
Editor: "Duck rape. Don't ask anymore questions"
Rep: "This isn't because I keyed your car last month for not letting me write about the bear raping story isn't it?"
Editor: "..."

First off, Deca, GREAT new sig.

Second, on topic:

It's true!! I've seen this with my own two eyes. Yes, ok, I'm sick enough to have watched. But I couldn't help it. I was entranced. It was like Wild America was filming a duck rape documentary right there in my parent's back yard!

My folks have a place by the ocean. In between the rows of houses are inlets and boat docks. There are a number of ducks that hang out back there begging for food. Anyway, for some reason, males WAY outnumber females. You might see 2 females for every 5 to 10 males. The competetion is feirce. However, ducks don't seem to have any kind of system of alpha dominance or anything. Instead they just chase down whatever poor females they can lay into. In the spring you often you see female ducks have patches of missing feathers on their backsides from being accosted repeatedly.

It seems to work though. Each year brings a new batch of ducklings swiming along learning how to beg for Cheerios. :)
