A New Truism

I always hear "live every day as though it were your last".

A truism that drives me up the wall. If I lived today as though it were my last, I would certainly NOT be at work right now. Anyone actually following that truism is doomed to homelessness and misery.

So I have made a new one just now, and I kinda like it.

"Live every day as though you were 20 years older, and given the chance to come back and try it again."

I wish I had heard that twenty years ago. :P

Nono, think of it like this:

You'll wish you had paid attention 20 years from now. :)

I'd bet heavily on sporting events & move my investments from Donald Trump Hair care products to Martha Stewart Brand Shivs. Sorry, not quite what you were aiming for but that's all I got atm.

So kinda like "You'll regret what you didn't do in 20 years"?

No, kinda like "Live every day as though you were 20 years older, and were given the chance to come back and try it again."

Y'know, let's never mind that I said anything. It didn't get through. We'll call it my personal truism. :)

This reminds me of that episode of X-Men when Cable had to go back in time to stop Bishop from altering the present in the past to fix the future so his past didn't mess up his future in the present.

I understand exactly what you're saying Tarryk, and that's a darn good tidbit of wisdom you've come up with.

It's one of those things that makes me sit and consider a bit, whether 20 years from now I'll have regrets for spending much of my youth playing computer games. Don't get me wrong, I'm still an active person, I have a normal job and I lift weights at least four times a week... but most of the time I'd just rather be chilling out conversing with my friends online (and storming some digital castle somewhere). I've even several times contemplated whether or not I should end a perfectly good relationship with a girl who loves me very much, simply because she does not share said interest (knowing full well this is another decision which I may very well regret for the rest of my days). It's an interesting point you've raised; personal reflection on my lifestyle always brings me back to the same conclusion: the way I currently live my life makes me happy, which I think is all that can be hoped for.

In any event, I think these types of reflections are what make your proposed A.T. adventure so intriguing to someone like myself. I assure you that when you write the book of your trail memoirs, I'll be one of the first in line to buy it.
