What, Nickelback released more than one song? Whoa.

That's HILARIOUS. For years I've been saying that all of Nickelback's "hits" sound like regurgitated crap, but I had NO idea it was to such an extent.
That's just sick, I'm rolling, over here. That web page needs to be circulated.

I love both songs and don't care (not to mention don't really hear the similarities?).. guess I'm the outkast on this one. I love them!

O.O
Trist...my girl...it's the exact same song. Same drumline, same guitar line, same bass line, different words.

I listened again and still didn't hear it..

Guess I'm not hearing it because I don't want to?

Wow.
Just... wow. LOL I've heard of maybe recycling a riff... or even altering it slightly. Or a drum line.
The whole SONG?
"Whoa."

Well they did alter it if you want to get technical. The snare in "Someday" seems louder (and he seems to be a bit happier with it on the breaks, throwing in that extra series of hits before the chorus), and they added the grungy pre-chorus guitar buildup.
I'm still cracking up over this. I've put 3 coworkers into shock, 1 of whom is now pissed that she bought both albums, hahaha.

I hope they didn't go..
"Thank gawd for that louder snare, dude, this rocks - maybe no one will notice!!"
*roffle*

ok tristalyn, the way you will notice a similarity is that the two tracks when played over each other never really hit sour or uncomfortable notes. They harmonize with eachother just like row row row your boat. If two songs harmonize with eachother when played over eachother, then essentially they are the same song, or variation of the same song.
crazy eh?
snare drum ... *scream*

It goes a lot beyond simple harmonizing, too, if you listen and swap your speakers to hear each one. The drum beat is EXACTLY the same save for a couple fills, and the guitars are also exactly the same save for filler riffs and that pre-chorus buildup (except they're filtered to be slightly louder in the newer one).
The only actual difference is the vocals, and they are "different but harmonized".

The timing seems slightly off, but they DO sound alot alike.
That is just sad.

yes, suxxor
i know of another band that did this.... actually aha did two songs that sounded really damn similar, take on me and another song. but they did the same charcoal effect in both videos and they were meant to be played back to back.
"The sun always shines on TV" was vastly different from "take on me"
and both were hits.
but this is blatently effortless melodically... gah!

That is precious! I mean I don't mind Knickelbacks music that much, but it does all seem rather similar and bland. Nice to know there's bigger reasons for that than I guessed.

Ok, I have to go with Trist on this one...kinda'.
I hear similarities, yes. But frankly, I don't hear the exact same song. I just don't.
For the record, I like both songs. I don't think they are the greatest rock songs ever made or anything. For that matter, if they are one in the same, I don't think IT is the greatest rock song ever made. But I like them for what they are. I think they're both fun to sing along to in my car, despite the fact that anyone else who can hear me would think I was being choked to death.
Anyway, I hear the similarities. I hear the not surprising similarities of 2 songs written by the same people. I think there are loads of other bands out there that you could do the same thing with 2 of their songs. So this does not dissuade my view at all. I like Nickleback. They are not 'teh awesome." But they're still cool, IMO.

Sorry, it's the exact same song. It's not a matter of opinion, they are the same guitar lines, same drum lines, same bass lines. The minor differences happen once every 30 to 45 seconds in the form of a build-up occuring at a half-measure difference to the other song.
This is not arguable, it is not my opinion. They are exactly the same song with different words.
If you like them, that's good, but it doesn't change the fact that they are one and the same song.
You're not hearing "differently", you're simply only hearing the vocals of the song and everything else is background noise to you. Which I know many people do that, nothing wrong with that.

Well that could very well be. I never claimed to be a musician. So I did the only thing I knew to do. I did the research. Yes, its music. Yes, this is just a thread on a forum. Yes, I still like the songs. And yes, you're most assuredly correct that I'm not hearing the music for the vocals.
But if it can be researched, I'll research it. So here I am looking at the sheet music and from what I see, they're also not the same song. Similar. But different. However, not being a musician, I only see notes on a page. The notes look like different ones to me, but I will grant you that I don't know very much. So here's where I found the music:
