NO MORE F**KING STATIC!!

Postby epiphonic » Sat Nov 13, 2004 7:13 pm

Ok, I finally flipped out friday night and flew out of the house after mulitple people on rk1 AND2 were complaining to me and gridfan asking to make the static and crappouts stop while i was broadcasting. this was a problem last year too, the signal would come out of my pc as if my levels were totally fukked, sometimes as if there was nasty static, or like it was coming through a garbage can. i dont let the levels go over -2, but some times i miss it, but thats human, but this is really out of this world.
this is something i have tried too hard and long to fix.

ERGO....

thats WHY i left GSP a year and a half ago without saying fucking goodbye. yeah, i fought a really bitter battle with my pc on not only a DJ front but a memory/file system one as well. Didnt lose anything, but i have replaced everything in that machine but the harddrives which dont have the hosted mp3s on them and the sound card. Oh yeah its a bit more than memory, file system, cat hair killed the cpu fan, the processor went critical and never came back up and brought the board down with it.

After replacing both i had a head splitting memory failure, that me and my friends troubleshot for weeks thinking it was everything BUT memory, down to the point of running some memory testers, pulling out the bad stick, replacing with a brand new stick of bad memory, then finally getting a stick of good micron.... now have a gig of this stuff combined with samsung...

now im running XP and winamp 5....

WITH THE SAME GODDAMN PROBLEM that made me quit last year.

so I ripped out that peice of shit soundblaster live mp3+ 5.1 card and talked to gridfan about some snazzy cards on the market for directsound and game/entertainment because I've been rather lacking in updates as of late in that field (heh, i got the recording shit covered)

So now i have the SB Audigy 2 sz or zs whatever and im gonna try it on a test server to see IF i have finally overcome this plight.
I would try it on the normal server but i would rather not have the beginning of the show comprised of "check, kchhkkk-kt---chkkktt- testing testing.....one two..... can you hear me? can you hear me now? can you hear me now?"

hahahha

I would really like to once again be more than an embarassment to gsp.

so keep me updated on this thread as much as you can until i get my own dj forum.... i cant stand making your ears bleed. things used to be so much more phun!

Dude... calm down before you have a braineurism. We'll bear with you, no worries. Most of us understand the headaches of hardware and drivers tweaking.

Anyway, distortion or not, glad to see you back.

By the way... nice art.

Dood I went through that same shit... seriously.

Ended up being that f'n soundblaster not getting along well with my mobo. Thanks to Wulfy's help, he recommended a newer mobo (which mine was new but was known for not doing well with sb cards) so this board has On Board audio which I thought... eww on board?.. hmm.. ok sure.. I tried it and now I love it. It cured my static problems in NO time.. I guess I could have bought a different sound card besides SB, but I wanted a newer mobo anyway to handle higher end processors and memory etc. So I definitely think you're on the right track by getting the audigy, but if the audigy doesn't work I'd recommend something BESIDES anything with the letters SB on it hehe I have always loved SB but seems they have an issue with Winamp or somethin that screws it up. I tried 2 differen't SB cards and got the same static result as you're mentioning.

Using the nvidia on board sound now and don't have any problems that I've been told of.
