I've been wondering about this for some time... As the political game is evolving I see a few posibilities in the future...
I would not be surprised if the Democrats rolled out Hillary during the next year. This election was still too close to Bill's for her to win. But next term will be suitable. She has the charisma and backing to pull it off, and she will be their most effective weapon against the republicans. That and she's the first Female. That will give her votes, add on top she's liked, and her husband was, all the scandals aside, one of the best things that ever happened to America. She has a good chance.

As a counter move to her pressence, I suspect the Republicans will start probing to the rule that a person has to be born an American to run for Pressident. Arnold is their next strong character, and what you think of him or not is irrelivant. He has charisma and he could (under the right circumstances) pull it off.
His defying Bush was a very deliberate move. He's still Republican, so he has their support, but by defying Bush, he gains some votes from the Anti-Bush people. Also, he shows that he has his own oppinions, which will be needed during next term. A new leader.
The republicans need to make the change while their still in power, so for the next year or two I woulnd't be surprised if Arnold will be getting a lot of focus. They need to make him look good.

This are just my thoughts... But keeping the political play in mind, and what it's all about, I would be very surprised if this wasn't the scheme.

I keep on hearing that Hilary can run for president in the upcommng year from a lot of poilitical people... so I did some research... and here is what I found.

Hillary is a double-edged sword in that she is loved by many democrats yet despised by many republicans. Expect a negative ad campaign the likes of which has not been seen yet if she gets the nomination (featuring the whitewater scandal i'm sure).

Honestly I'm not sure who the Democrats have to offer beyond Hillary tho. Ppl are talking about Howard Dean, but his main appeal was the anti-war stance, and that issue could very well be gone by 2008 (as well as not having an incumbant to bash with it). John Edwards was a decent candidate, but he gave up his Senate seat to run this year, so there is the question of where he goes and what he does in the next 2-3 years to stay in the spotlight.

Mainly the Democrats will need another Clinton-type to succeed in the US these days tho. By that I mean a charismatic individual who connects well with ppl AND has Southern/Christian ties in order to dilute the conservative/evangelical base that grew to a monstrous size this past election. Just who that person is I don't know, but if we have to settle for a Clinton wife rather than a Clinton clone, I'm just not sure if that will be enough

I wanna see Hillary versus Colin Powell. First women and first black man. I personally would like Powell to win.

Granted, but also remember that she is well known for the woman whom was cheated on and still stood by her man, I mean there's only but soo much ground you can really attack Hillary on. And yes the Dems do have someone if it does come down to Clinton vs. Powell... his names is Rev. Al Sharpton... *shudders*

Honestly, Hillary Clinton would have no shot at winning the Democratic presidential nomination. She's powerful in political circles, but there are plenty of rank and file democrats who want nothing to do with her running for President, myself included.

Add that in with the fact that she is pretty much universally *despised* by the right and the Dems would be setting themselves up for another tremendous defeat by nominating her. Hillary MAY be able to shoehorn herself onto a ticket as a VP but not as President. Even as VP, she'd do more to energize republicans to vote against her than she would to energize democrats to vote for her, and I don't think she has much pull with independants IMO.

Edwards and Barak Obama are, at the moment, the two most likely nominees in 2008. Needless to say, a LOT can change between now and then so god knows how it will end.

McCain and Guiliani are, in my mind, the two most likely Republican candidates in '08. Cheney has repeatedly said he would not run for President at the end of Bush's 2nd term. Schwartzenegger would be an interesting candidate - he's handled California very well by most accounts - but I sincerely doubt the Republicans could manage to push through a constitutional amendment to allow him to run for president in just 4 years.

As much as I would love to see Arnold run (I'm a Demo by the way) - he's not American born so that's out of the picture... as for Guiliani - he may be one of the very few Republicans I would support.

Sooner or later that backwater idea of who can run or not will change. It's undeniable. He's an American, To the bone, nothing can change that, no one can deny that. No single yank today is "Pure" American. You all came from somewhere. It will be addressed sooner or later, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was regarding him. If it will be withing 4 years I don't know, maybe it is too soon. But it will change at some point. All laws do. No single government in the world has maintained the same rules through out it's course. America needs a few changes sooner or later, and this is one of them. You can't keep basing a countries ideals and beliefes on the reigonal forms brought with you from fuedal England.
It might be carved in stone, but even stone withers in time. And so will the constitution.
It's proggress. It's healthy, and it's human. But most of all, it's inevidable!

Oddy - having an elected President be from your own home born citizenship is so not a backwater idea. A backwater idea is the ruler of your country over the years being decided by this guy marrying this woman and then seeing what they have for kids. Monarchy my good man. It's so backwater it's been around for as long as we can remember.

Hillary or Powell, both would be sorta OK in my eyes. McCain would be ok on their side as well.

Your country obviously doesn't have royalty... They're a token, a representation of our country... We elect a PM just like England does. Our leaders are political, and as full of BS as all the others... The monarchy is not a political body, it holds no real power.
