Just an open question, and something I've been thinking about for a bit - but the way that "America" is and the way "America" is going to continue to be, there's going to be some hollywood/actor/somsone that becomes president really soon. So whom do you think is going to is going to be president first and why? It doesn't nessesarily have to be from this list (it's just an enticing subject for you people to read)

In all seriousness? I think you'd be more likely to see Arnold Schwartzenegger up as president than either of those two. He's lobbying with all his buddies in congress to allow citizens like himself who were originally born in other countries to become president of the United States. If all goes according to plan and his political career takes off well enough from being governor of California, I think it's the greatest possibility.

Hah, yeah right... For him to be pres' they'd have to change the constitution. And even though it's in dire need of changing, it's about as likely to happen as an italian guy who lives opposite a pasta bar is to move.

Heck, even oh' so liberated Denmark hasn't changed it's constitution very often... And we don't even have people screaming "But we musn't change it, it represents freedom, and rights... And guns, and other such bollocks that we would really be better of without but we're stickin it to the man, so we're keeping them" when ever we talk about it... Ours needs changing, but I doubt it will happen again anytime soon (last time was when our queen was instated).

So I seriously doubt Arnie would be pres'... Someone who I honestly think could run and have a shot of some sort tho', would be Mrs. Clinton.
But if it has to be an actor. Denzel will be the first Black Pres'... Denzel is the first black everything, so obviously, his agent will land him Pres' as well! ^^

w00t for Denzel!

Must agree and comply. Denzel is one of the coolest AND smartest cats on the planet. He also happens to be black, and I think he'd make an awesome president. It would stress him out to the point of coronary, but he'd be a damn good pres if he made it for a full 4.

Well, I dunno how good, but you never can tell until they've gone a full 4. I think he'd be worth my vote.

Besides how cool and badass this ebony cat is, do we happen to know his views? Conservative, liberal, independant? ;) (I mean, all the other actors are pretty loud in their voicing, has anyone heard Denzel's?)

If he isnt some totally right or left wing nut, then I would probably say Denzel too

Man, how do we forget our good minority actors. If Denzel was up, sure I'll vote for him - but if Morgan Freeman was up, Denzel wouldn't have a chance though.

In all and all i think being president is a bit overrated because you can only do but soo much (for good and bad), but that but soo much you can do is a whole lot.

But if I had to choose the best president/vice president combination it would have to be Geroge Carlin/Chris Rock (both could go for president or vice president)

Carrot Top for President!!

Seriously, in this day & age personally my pessimistic mind only comes up with terrible possibilities the likes of The Manchurian Candidate when people look at Arnold and suggest letting foreigners become President. It may seem like a radical idea, but considering how many folks in this world hate us simply for being us I'd rather not invite them to the control room and give them power if they fool enough of us to get in.

For what it's worth, Denziel Washington is a staunch Republican. He made his views about supporting President Bush in an interview with Barbara Walters. And he was also very adamant and angry at the liberal Hollywood types.

Now, Wesly Snipes on the other hand :)

I don't know... It's not really that simple.
The world doesn't hate yanks for being yanks... They hate you for what your government has done. They hate the "we're bigger and better, and we're right, if we're not, we'll force it" attitude you see only too often. I used to despise yanks for that simple reason, I could not be bothered listening to people who'se only argumental skills were "Me crush you, crush you to goo!" and most yanks I'd talked to at that point did just that. It was either "we have the bombs" or "our tanks are bigger" or "our militairy is the best" and it was pissin me off. America is seen, by a lot of people, as the kindergarden bully. And it's not always untrue. At the same time, I noticed over the years that most yanks I talked to, were either immature snots, exactly like all the eurotrash, or really cool people. And I'm not the only one who's seen that...

The problem is, a statement like yours does not help the problem. It enhances it. Sure, you have your reasons for saying it. But it doesn't make it right.

Half our royal family consists of foreigners. Yet they're the symbol of Denmark and always has been. We have the OLDEST royal family in the world. It outdates all the rest. Yet the First Princes newly wed is an Aussie, the queens husband (doesn't make him king) is a frenchie and the youngets prince married a Jap'. They're all more danish than our currency and national anthem. They represent us. Doesn't matter where they're from.

The sooner the world figures out that the future we face is a multi ethnical one, the sooner we'll get there. So a born yank or not. If they're runnin for pres' I highly doubt it's an austrian conspiracy to take over America... He's a yank, just like the rest of you, so why shouldn't he be able to run? He's lived there longer than some of you!

As a yank, I understand where many get their impressions of America. One day I saw an american bad talking a russian in game. talk about how we would take over their gov't and crap like that. As a TRUE american, i.e. I put my life on the line by serving in the armed forces, I pay taxes, and earn everything I work for. I promptly asked the person how old her was. It surprised me that he said he was 30. I then said, I guess you still live at home with mother and have never lived on your own or served for the country. He said close, that he lives with his grandmother. What does this say... By right many can say Americans are spoiled to their life. At this point I told him it was not proper for him to talk in such a way. I think he quit the game or quit logging in on that toon.

America by definition, is the melting pot of many nations, creeds, and colors. Different ideals and cultures. No one idea is 100% correct with the exception of a few basic rights we discuss in our consitution. We have based ourselves that way for many years, some of those values are pushed to the extremes from the same extremists that plague the rest of the world.

Remember one thing above all else, America in general, tries to do the right thing, sometimes we as a nation forget sometimes the right thing is to do nothing at all. I think we can all agree, everyone has that one problem. We being human have the problem of trying to "FIX" things. And sometimes fixing things tends to make things worse. :-)

Very well put. Not to brag...but theres a reason the very conflicted views of Liberals and Conservatives hasnt erupted into civil war in America...yet all around the world, such opposing views do lead to bloodshed with ease. I don't know what that reason is, but for one country to be able to keep rather civil while so many others simply blow the opposing side to bits, is a sign that the former country isn't all that bad.

I think it would be a grave mistake to put our faith in a celebrity. I am sick and tired of hearing them speak about something as if their opinion is more clairvoyant and important than mine. Tarryk and Oddy alone would likely have a better mindset on perhaps the influence of Religion in the Government, than Brad pitt or Sean Penn would.

The only real publicity I support is for Celebs to be supporting and voicing for research into parkinsons and other medical needs. Using their fame to help everyone is great; using their fame to help a political party is not.

Every motivated person of strong belief uses their postition and their talents to assist the causes and things they believe in strongly. Right or wrong. Good or bad. Celebrity or obscure joe on the street.

We make the huge mistake of percieving our celebrities to be larger than life and mentally assigning them more power, ability and significance than they actually possess, forgetting in our beguilement with the pretty faces and the huge hype, that they are often no better, smarter or more able than anyone you would never give a second look to on the street.

Americans have not yet erupted in violent and bloody civil war again because our lives are still more comfortable than the freedoms we are loosing and because our view of the injustices that are being visited upon us and people elsewhere in the world by our own government is being strictly controlled by the American media.

We, as Americans are being bred, raised and programmed for complacency, consumerism and conceit. Fat, ignorant, unmotivated and superior people don't tend to get up and revolt against the government. Though I've watched us break out into fistfights to get some ugly doll for our kids before XMas or beat some poor person senseless for the crime of having a different sexual orientation than we are raised to believe is "acceptible".

We trust too much in the reality of what we see on television. At least the news.... We are softhearted and empathetic to the plight of people (as a nation) if their tragedy is rubbed in our faces. Many of us feel real guilt that we live so comfortably and in "freedom" (and I use that word very loosely) while those in "third world nations" are oppressed and deprived of their basic human rights. The majority of us do not recognize that the tyrants and oppressors on the other side of the world aren't so very different from our own leaders. We mistake helping people for stepping in, overthrowing their governments and annexing their land and resources in the name of democracy. And for the most part, it's an honest mistake.

A celeb president? We've already done it with Ronald Reagan and love him or hate him, he didn't bring on the end of the world or mess up our country any more than any of the others we've had. Well, to be brutally honest, Denzell Washington wouldn't be any worse than Bush or Kerry. We have no appropriate or decent choices offered to us. And I for one would rather be represented by someone who had good intentions and little experience than the usual round of asses who have loads of experience but are abusing their authority and pandering to Big Business, Old Time Religion and Old Money.

And a word on Church and State... if ANY of these republican jackoffs we've had in government for the duration of my lifetime actually BELEIVED there was a God... they would never have done any of the ridiculous horseshit they've done. Because they'd KNOW they were going straight to hell for it. Straight to hell, do not pass go, do not collect special interest group funding. It's really pathetic that we as a nation can still buy in to the myth and allow a bunch of hypocrites wave the fear of God in our faces to make us bow down and follow their own selfish, stupid and immoral agendas.

Of course Saint, you are right. But when celebrity X comes on during the Emmies to talk about the War in Iraq being wrong, or goes and tries to

Nice point, I had forgotten that. Violence can be born from desperation, much like a cornered wounded animal.

If the situation for many was much more like it is with poorer nations, I figure we would be having civil war and uprisings. It was a poor remark of mine. Are you sure we are fat, ignorant, unmotivated and superior thinking?

Right here and now you have americans and foreigners talking about disinterest with the government. Granted it is with the veil of the internet, I hardly think all those college students protesting in full force are ignorant and unmotivated. Hardly think those who are trying to be enlightened towards the election (Teenagers, friggin teenagers, talking as vibrantly and interested in the election as politicians are!)

Saint... you do know, that homosexuality would have you beaten, beheaded, stoned, ect. in any number of Arab-states, right? We remark as if only americans are ignorant towards someones sexuality, yet homosexuals had been slaughtered along the jews and slavs, they had been persecuted and killed by any number of other nations. They don't become raised to believe its acceptable...we don't either! There are still many conservatives (And I guess, liberals) who will go and say homosexuality is wrong. It was only a year or so ago that some conservative "Michael Savage" on MSNBC told a homosexual to get aids and die, hasnt it?

What I find more outrageous, is that we almost turn a blind eye towards any other tragedy that doesn't effect us. Hearing a buddy's school over in Sweden hold a minute of silence for the children of Belsan Russia...when my school did hardly a thing at all to even mention it.

On church and state?

There is no reason you should combine the two. When organized religion takes the place of the State, you have one group pressing its views on a number of other faiths. We have a president who has openly expressed his faith as something that guides him politically, and whether said or not, he has let it be known his personal religion and beliefs are being pressured onto a population.

If this plummit into a considerable conservative-state continues, I am getting the hell outta dodge.

I can see that some of you are going to be viewig my points as anti-American. *shrug* I don't think we're any worse than the rest of the world, if the truth be known.

The current social systems of education and media seem to be almost explicitly geared towards churning out mentally lazy, conformist, easily led sheep who will not get off their asses for anything but making sure they and their families stay comfy and well-supplied with what the media assures us all we can't be happy without. Or to oppress the living crap out of anyone who isn't part of the official, socially accepted norm...passive-agressively if possible.

We are trapped in a two-party system of government where both parties are corrupt and in some cases less than benign, by our own fear of making waves and belief that we cannot make a difference. This belief is manufactured and fostered by our own institutions and enforced by our government.

An excellent example of how far our goverment will go towards ignoring our freedoms and our own "time honored" rights as set down in the Constitution and Bill of Rights is the recent roundup and imprisonment of the bicyclists who yearly do their big gathering in NYC because they just happened to coincide with the big Republican Convention this year...Get a load of THIS story. Wonder why we didn't see some live media coverage on that puppy.

Kinda sounds like any other country, eh? So it's not so hard to see why I at least do not indulge in the mutual admiration club of the myth of American superiority.

Those of us discussing this openly and freely on the internet are part of a minority who hasn't, for one reason or another, taken the programming our society instils in us through education and media. Doesn't make us any better than the average joe who HAS bought in... just different. We're aware of the lie, but what are we doing about it really? Not much, aside from sitting in front of our computers, bandying about words and ideas and clever turns of phrase. So I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm much different in my effect than some poor schmuck who actually believes in the superiority of the USA and the goodness of our government.

And just for Telnarus, who has not had the distinct (dripping with sarcasm) joy of reading my political views before... I AM telling you EXACTLY how I feel about it. Unadorned. Uncensored. And, as I noticed you've served in our armed forces... Congratulations. You've made a real difference and you should be damned proud. No sarcasm there. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the people who will pick up a gun and defend my white, fat, spoiled ass from people who would dearly love to stomp it based on my position of being semi-wealthy, semi-free and all-spoiled out of my mind. I may hate my government, and I may judge that the things it directs you to do are often unjust and tyrranical... but I will not condemn YOU for doing the brave and responsible thing.[/url]
