Some look pretty easy but if you look at alot every once in a while you will see one that must have taken a long... long time, I think Lauri should try this type of art-work.

Lauri, don't come down off your high pedestal and stoop to the age-old (and I mean old) art os ASCII art, please!

This is what such as we were forced to do to be creative on a TI calculator in 1976, and yes it should be remembered, but doen't mean we have to teach it to our children!

I don't mean to piss on anyone's picnic, but... ASCII art can be easily generated with all kinds of little converters, like this one.

Some are done by manually, yes, but 99% of the more complex ASCII art images are from converters like the one above.

Yep, this is also an unfortunate truth nowadays. While the generators are neat, they do make you wonder "is it *real* ascii art or...". >.<

Deca is right. most of what is called ASCII art these days is auto stuff.
Actually. ASCII art (except in a few special cases) has never been of "pictures".
ASCII art has almost always been, logos, or "artwork".
and by that I mean lineart not dithered like ASCII "photos" are.

"The Scene" still use ASCII art a lot in their release files tough.

My old friend "Thor" was huge on the ANSI art scene back in the DOS days, member of ACiD and other such high-profile ANSI art groups. He did freakin' AMAZING work, and obviously no converters involved. If I can ever dig up some of his stuff I'll post it.
