ok, so every once in a while, something happens to a person that changes their prospective, be it a minute or the rest of their life. my guessing would be that this new "the passion of christ" movie is doing the same for some folk. and now, its driving me mad.

i think its ok to belive what you want to belive in, but please, KEEP ME OUT OF IT. everybody i know in boston has now been trying to get me to turn to christianity JUST because they saw the passion movie. they think its the right thing to do, and your going to burn in hell if you dont. well you know what? not in my religion.

i study the laws and practises of buddhism. its the only religion that ever made sense to me, so i follow with it. that doesnt mean in a full fledged buddhist, all it means is that i follow some of the rules, an example would be finding your inner self to better with socity, to treat others as you would treat yourself, ect ect.

i understand all about the christian religion. alpha, omega, armagedon, eden, lazerous, you name it i can probally answer it. as a kid i was christian as in the same sense of if a cow was born in a tree it would be a bird. but i learned, and stored it aside. i looked again at it, and decided that to me, it was all baloney (no offence to anybody of the religion). alot of never made sense to me so i never took it up.

but again here we have these people trying to convert me to christianity when they only saw a movie, and A: never went to curch B: never picked up a bible C: didnt even know who adam and eve were. sometimes it seems that this movie WAS created to convert people to christianity (if anybody remembers, the issue with this movie coming out was concern from the hebrew population that it would convert people to christianity. as you know, hebrew practicses dont inculde jesus christ).

so in my last statement: belive what you want to belive in, but LEAVE THE REST OF US OUT OF IT!

reminds me of those people that have seen lord of the rings without reading the books, and now try toi convince how GREAT that story is, without even knowing that orcs are GREEN!

Can I ask you not to slam Xtianity? All forms of old world religeon have their wisdom and their truth and it makes no sense to adopt one and then say that any other is full of pucky.

Actually, the purpose of this movie was for Mel Gibson to show people what he found in his life -- he found Christianity after some sort of terrible accident that disfigured him. He has had that taken care of and you couldnt tell now, though.

But, I guess you could say the point might be to try to convert people, but I honestly think this is more of a "This is what God did for me, and he also did it for you" type thing. Alot of people don't like to read nowadays -- maybe people that were leaning on the fence might fall over to the side of Christianity.

The only thing that's got my irked is the hype behind this movie. Thankfully I've been to busy working to really focus on how that hype makes me feel other than bothered. ^_^

I belive in possability. The religions I have a fair understanding of don't always make the most sense to me, but they work for some people. I know very good people that are good people because they abide by the guidelines of a religion. And if that's what it takes to mold a good person, then I'm ok with it. I don't belive it's a practice for me, so I stay out of it if it's anything more than interesting conversation.

The part about the disfigurement is a common urban legend. That the movie he was in "The Man Without A Face", was based on a true life story of Mel Gibson. Gibson was never disfigured. As far as "finding Christainity", he has kept his personal beliefs away from the media. I believe (could be wrong here though), that there was some controversy because his father is a devout Jew, and denounced Mel making the film.....but I'll leave that as specualtion.

I'll go along with StBootay on this one and an old XTC song, "Dear God", where the question is brought up of whether God made us, or we made him. There is nothing wrong with religion as a philosophy to base ones life upon....we all do it to a certain extent. And nothing wrong with making a film about one of those icons that has effected human history.

Well I don't wanna get into the broader issue this brings up(mainly religion), but I know some have a problem with the movie because it only tells a small part of the story of Jesus. Now I understand if that's what Mel was going for, and I have no problem with it on that point, but some do. Personally I have no interest in it because I already know the story of Jesus well enough for me, and this movie seems like it'd be downright painful to watch due to the violence & blood spread through it.

Also I thought the biggest objection to the movie was that is enhanced an outlook of blaming the Jews for what happened to Jesus. Somehow reading disdain for Jewish people isn't that hard to accept as part of it's message if Mel believes his own father much. His father who's one of the nuts out there that don't believe the Holocaust happened.

Anyway, personally give me The 10 Commandments or Jesus Christ Superstar as good religious movies anyday as opposed to a movie like this.

Whoopsie on my part, there Boinky....guess Mel's dad wasnt Jeiwsh. I just vaguely plugged that in from hearin something about that. My memory served me to the absolute opposite. Hope I didn't come across as Anti-sematic there. *thinking of Seinfield epsidoes now" Whats the difference in a Sadist and a Dentist.....better magazines.... I'm no anti-dentite!

I honestly don't understand what all the fuss is about. But ok, I live in a country where the seriously devoted are laughed at if they try to tell the rest what to believe. You may believe what you will, but don't try to tell anyone in DK what to do. That national mentality runs so deep, our god damn politics are based on it... *sigh*
Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes it's bad, as danes like to believe they're the best at everything, and if you try to tell them they're not... You're an idiot!... Simple as that... And total bollocks!

But back to religion, I don't see what the fuss is about, as I'm anything but a believer. I'm the sort of person who always ends up entertaining everyone else at a party, and I have considered stand-up and acting on several occasions, my drama teacher encourages me to every class. As such, my view of life is NOT one of faith. I believe in two things, and two things alone.
Chaos and coincidence.
These two factors are how the human race was brought about, and why we're still here.

Now I know Christianity says god created the planet. I also know he allegidly created the universe. But quite frankly I'm not about to buy it with all the obvious flaws involved.

Belief is a great thing, and I respect people who are able to, yet my rather cynical view of life doesn't allow me to see anything but all the pesimistic things... Which is what comedy is all about.
To say that the movie converts people to Christianity? I'm sorry if I offend anyone here, but that's just bollocks!
If I swore to wear "Nike" for the rest of my life, cus some athlete won som'n while wearing "Nike" I'd not be a believer, I'd be part of a trend.
If I became a vegetarian because I saw a picture of a cute little calf, but still ate gummi-bears (which include animal ingredients) I'd not be a true vegetarian, I'd be part of a trend.
If I swore to Christianity because I'd seen a movie, but never felt religious before, nor had any real connection to it all. I'd not be a beiever... I'd be part of a trend!

It is not my intention to judge people, it is not my intention to belittle. I have the fullset respect for people with faith, even though I have none myself. What I do NOT have any respect for, are posers who jump on the wagen because everyone else does. The people who act superior because they're part of a group, yet have no clue of what they're talking about. Sure they read a book, and they memorised the sentances. But do they believe? Does it really mean shit to them? Then why the hell must they preach to the rest of us?
Back it up with an oppinion you didn't read in a book, and I'll listen...

The original Christians were either stoned (with rocks, not with weed), beheaded, drawn and quartered or forced to go into hiding because of the ridicule, anger, frustrations and general animosity directed towards them because of their radical and somewhat new belief. This was during the time that Jesus Christ actually lived. Is it a wonder that Christians are still treated in such a manner?

When it comes to discussing my faith ( I hate, despise, will never use and refuse to accept the term "religion" because it is organized religion that has given Christianity a bad name for hundreds upon hundreds of years) I will give my views, offer my faith belief and stay open for opposing views but I will not insult, berate or slam someone else's fath and I refuse to remain silent while my faith is attacked. Yes, it is a bible verse, and we all know it as the Golden Rule, but I feel it should be repeated and has bearing here:

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Simply put, don't slam my faith unless you are prepared to have the same done to yours.
