Looking forward to learning more of it, myself.
I'm really annoyed with myself that I missed this one on the radar. Looks incredible.. now if they can only get the game done well.

Bah! It's probably just me, but I absolutely hate the cartoonish influence that the anime rage is having on the looks of MMORPG's. Give me a good, realistic looking dark fantasty setting, not something I'd see on Saturday morning cartoons.
Again, that's just me.

i would say the same (i did realy loud bout warcraft for example)
but i dont think it would fit to this one. this is something else.

you dont see the good stuff at saturday morning, do you?
ps.

Looks interesting, but same shizzle different dizzle, in my own opinion.
"The first episode of The Saga of Ryzom features a tremendous fantasy world to discover, explore and understand: the green planet Atys."
I'm already bored. I've seen a million MMO's with a million "rich and deep green lush worlds full of nature and cow dung, build your destiny now!!"
Not that I know exactly WHAT I want in an upcoming MMO, but I must humbly decline on Ryzom. Without ever downloading, I'm quite sure I've played it before. I'm sure it probably considers itself sci-fi in that it's in the future, but I don't see NEARLY enough sci fi there to be interested.
How about an MMORPG that takes place on a planet without any nature at all, it's just one big paved world-wide "city" with thousands of different cultural meccas? Now THAT is something that would click for me.

you know, a couple of years ago, I was looking forward to the release of a game called Dragon Empire's, I am even one of the senior staff of the most well known clan within the game..
that was two years ago... the game, is only just in early beta now.. what does it have?
fantastic graphics.. realtime climate map.. dynamic spawn locations and times, etc etc etc, we've heard it all before..
the biggest attraction at the time was, it was going to be only humans.. AND there would be no set classes, we could develop our toons how we wished...
A year ago that changed... we gained "shadows" and "dragonbloods" which to the casual observer, look like Night Elves and Orcs..
The shadows... dont use armour, but have special "tattoo's" that act as armour (now where have I heard this before)
and best of all.. we got classes, really nice, freeform classes... so freeform, that if yoou want to play a fighter, you go dragonblood, no iffs, no butts, you will be a dragonblood, like it or not.. humans are mages, and the shadows are scout classes..
it took 3 months of pestering the senior level designer (an irl acquaintence) and a lot of forum pressure, to get the freeform class put back in as a player unlockable class..
two years have passed, lots of waiting, lots of crap.. why do I still wait.. I don't know.. I've had a look at other games.. Ryzom included.. and Biosfear (oh how I loath biosfear) and at the end of the day, I came back to AO, why? simply because it doesnt really try to be anything that it is not.. people knock it, but it's still there, people still enjoy it.. okay, it has it's faults, but what game doesnt.. You cannot please everyone..
at this point in time, I have lost any idea of the point I was thinking about when I started this post, and so, I will slink back off under the table with a large bottle of leetpiss.

Aren't we a pretty little fairy-tale land with our little anime children and edenesque blahdiddy blah... FEH
AO is desolate, it is apocalyptic, it has weird red and green storms that make us thank the GODS that we have breathing apparatus built into our helmets and that we were genetically developed for this world.
Pukeity puke... pretty yay, new yay, detailed yay...
IT'S FANTASY!!! GO AWAY, narrrrrr...
*goes back to waiting on City of Heroes and the lack of an inventory to worry about*

well, yeah, thats written on all boxes. And each time you open the box you read something like: "paper is patient."
Non the less, in this case I hope they will do what they say they are doing.
Tarryk wrote:I'm sure it probably considers itself sci-fi in that it's in the future, but I don't see NEARLY enough sci fi there to be interested.
Actually they have written "science-fantasy", whatever thats supposed to mean. So far I have only read that one of the races are 'bio-engineers' and somewhere was a tryker with something that looked like a gun. The rest looks for me like fantasy, and nothing else.

yeah, wouldnt we all love that to see? But I m afraid that will take still quite some time to happen
Hmmm. I ll keep up the hope that Ryzom will be some great title with new Ideas. If not there ll be XOU, in a couple of years maybe. But XOU will be different, I hope....

You could join SWG and hope for Coruscant to be added soon? Not exactly thousands of different cultural meccas, maybe more like 10,000 crushed into 1 giant Senate building with a planet-wide city surrounding it...
