Kate Bakinsale... Stay away from this guy!
If you're a vamp, warewolf or just your local Frankenstein... You're time has come!
Van Helsing is on the prowl!

O.O Holy crap.

I don't think it can quite out-do Underworld (I don't think anyone can outdo Kate Beckinsale with two guns and skin-tight leather), but WOW this looks like a potential rocker.

Same here, but I was more impressed by the fact that I've heard this name before, just... can't... think... from where.

Most recent time I've heard Van Helsing......thinking.....thinking.....The League Of Extrodinary Gentlemen. The vampyre chick in that was supposedly Helsing's wife who got vamped by Draaaagguuulaa in route to killing him. :)

If you mean the actor: He played wolverine in the X-men movies and the main character in Swordfish.

If you mean the character "Van Helsing", he shows up a lot in Dracula-based movies and productions. He is the "original" Vampire Hunter from the old tales. I can't remember his exact place of origin, but I think it may have been in the first edition of the original "Dracula" story.

Yep. Van Helsing first appeared Bram Stoker's Dracula (the 1897 novel, not the 1992 movie), Chapter 9.

From the book (when Dr. Seward writes about calling on Van Helsing to help "cure" Lucy Westerna, which is futile since the big D himself lunched on her a few nights before):
"I am in doubt, and so have done the best thing I know of. I have written to my old friend and master, Professor Van Helsing, of Amsterdam, who knows as much about obscure diseases as any one in the world. I have asked him to come over, and as you told me that all things were to be at your charge, I have mentioned to him who you are and your relations to Miss Westenra. This, my dear fellow, is in obedience to your wishes, for I am only too proud and happy to do anything I can for her.

"Van Helsing would, I know, do anything for me for a personal reason, so no matter on what ground he comes, we must accept his wishes. He is a seemingly arbitrary man, this is because he knows what he is talking about better than any one else. He is a philosopher and a metaphysician, and one of the most advanced scientists of his day, and he has, I believe, an absolutely open mind. This, with an iron nerve, a temper of the ice-brook, and indomitable resolution, self-command, and toleration exalted from virtues to blessings, and the kindliest and truest heart that beats, these form his equipment for the noble work that he is doing for mankind, work both in theory and practice, for his views are as wide as his all-embracing sympathy. I tell you these facts that you may know why I have such confidence in him. I have asked him to come at once. I shall see Miss Westenra tomorrow again. She is to meet me at the Stores, so that I may not alarm her mother by too early a repetition of my call.

He wasn't a vampire hunter at all in the book, but was a physician and scientist who, by circumstance, became a vampire hunter along with everyone else that was trying to snuff Drac. Hollywood sort of made him into the vampire hunter over the years.

And now we have Hugh Jackman looking an awful lot like Vampire Hunter D... hmm...

Well, I knew all the fancy stuff about Van Hellsing. I was just bringing up the last place I had heard his name on the big screen. Anything more indepth about his Van Helsing's wife?

The Vampire in LXG was not Van Helsings wife, that was Mina Harker the wife of Ben Harker the guy in Dracula who visits him (Dracula) to make the business deal. She got bitten and became a vampire.

And Van Helsing became known as "the vampire hunter" because he was the only one in Dracula that had knowledge of such foulness upon the earth. And since he was the first, he became the most famous. Basically :)

Not Ben, his name was Jonathan Harker.

antonius_ao is right about the LXG chick - that was Mina.
Van Helsing's wife (if he had one) wasn't mentioned in Bram Stoker's book. When Marvel Comics started publishing Dracula and Van Helsing stories, they added Van Helsing's first wife Elizabeth (who was killed by Drac), and his second wife (also killed by Drac) who was only known as "Mrs. Van Helsing".

wow....
ummm ok, so I must be very outta the loop.
cause the last time I heard the name Hellsting, It was a japanese anime that was out like several years ago.
but gratzi to all the Hollywood types who are picking up books and making mediocer movies about them
at least now people who haven't had an inclination on reading might get a little bit interested in some of the literary works out there.

ok and I want to elaborate (and correct my own mistake) the name is Helsing in the books but was changed to Hellsting for the anime.

Ja, ^_^; The name Van Helsing is a bit more litteraty than anime matterial.
And we don't know if the movies going to be lame. We're welcome to assume, but it's not done yet. ;) Don't wanna jump the gun quite yet. May be totally rocklisious.
