Is this before or after what occured in Pitch Black? (Only checked the trailer, not the site). I'm assuming before. If it is, I hope it shows his eyes getting replaced with those cooler ones like the PitchBlack website had shown.

There were rumors that it would be a prequel, but they were false. This first one takes place 5 years after Pitch Black.

for those who didnt kno riddick is from pitch black, i kill you. very good movie. ive heard rumors about this flick back in 2001 from a local radiostation but i wasnt convinced till now. from what i see in this trailer, its like combining the Final Fantasy movie with Titan AE and Rambo, and of course, Dune. very cool. (and for all those who have seen pitch black as much as i have...notice how the technology is differnt in the other movie? was just curious if anybody else picked that up). and tarryk, if u love sci-fi too (and i know ur going to see this odd) Alien VS Predator the movie is coming out soon. another alien movie, and a sequil to the only movie featuring vin diesel that didnt suck...good year ^.^

Yeah, they actually took a lot of care not to mention anything about Pitch Black in most of their own press releases and previews unless they were specifically asked. It's interesting how they're keeping the actual knowledge of Riddick pretty much fan-based and letting it spread through word-of-mouth alone.

As for Alien vs Predator, I'm looking forward to it. The interesting part: It's a sequel to all the Predator films, and simultaneously a prequel to all the Alien films. Takes place in Antarctica in the near-ish future.

OMG!!! I've been waiting for years for this... Van Desil is best in this movie, but OMG!!!!!!

Saw it waiting for ROTK, it looked a little...well, campy, at first sight, but it does look nice. Watch me jump up and down like a schoolgirl after I see it again. ^_^

That sounds cool for AVP Movie, and it makes sense.


Edit: yeah, it looks very nice indeed. I get a bit of a feeling of Dune, but seemingly more heavy and action oriented than it.

and yea, it is very dunish. just look at anarchy online, desert planet, sand worms, an extremly valuable ore is on the planet (notum here, spice in dune) the mining of it is dangerous (the worms in dune, the dust bragade in dune)...now all we need is ppl who live out in teh desert with bright blue eyes...(ao even rips from my fav book: hitch hiker's guid to teh galaxy. see screenshot and u see what i mean).

Well I don't think AO 'rips' from stuff so much as pays homage to other previous great Sci-Fi stuff such as Hitchikers Guide.

And as far as Chronicles of Riddick not trying to play off of Pitch Black, I'd say that you could probably attribute that to the fact that Pitch Black was the first movie Vin Diesel was in that halfway made a name for him - and I'd also argue that the movie was completely an emsemble piece (nobody who acted in it was of any name to draw interest, and his role was the main focus cause he outlasted everybody in it) so I find it hard to name him as the lead charachter.

As it is now, trying to pitch this new movie as a sequel to Pitch Black would cripple it's chances for a good outing - the good money is just saying Vin Diesel!

I for one have seen his subsequent movies, and found them pretty wanting compared to previous action Stars movies, but I know he's built up a fair fan base despite what I think.

The Backgroundstory is a little weird, but the action scenes were awesome and the dialogues I quite liked.

And yesterday i ve seen Pitch Black for the first time.
I cant see much connection between those 2 movies besides the 3 main chars. But PB is a nice movie too, especially the scenery of the planet
(when the eclipse started) I enjoyed. AND Claudia Black played in it too!
(I m just such an Farscape fan.....)

I realy need to find the german version of PB and than I ll go the cinema to watch the cronicles!

nice trailer . All of you should check out the animated movie of Riddick, it tells abit of what he does before the actuall movie. It is very well done and i liked it. Vin Diesel is doing the voice of Riddick in it so you get a good authentic feeling.
