				Thisll make you feel REEEEEEEEAAAAAAAL good about having a credit or debit card that can be potentially stolen.
True Story!
My dad and I went into EB games and picked up the game I was buying. We then proceeded to the counter, and began to purchase the game. One of the guys at the counter was a trainee, and the instructor was putting him through it step by step.
My dad signs the receipt as "Joe Bagodonuts".
The instructor goes, "Alright, now compare this to the signature on the card..."
3 seconds dead silence...
"Close enough."

				Hmm.
They always ask for picture ID here at Babbages, unless it's cash. Which is ironic since the "check cards" are touted as supposedly a "solution" to always needing ID for checking.

Kinda disheartening though, "close enough!" O.o
Oh well Gimme a donut, son!

				hehe, I only ask for ID when the on the person's signature box it says "See ID"
anytime you have to put in a pin number (like a debit card) I don't ask for ID since chances are only they know their pin number..

				I work in retail myself, and I always check the signature panel on the back. I also pay attention to how the person presents the card, and how they act. If they make me curious, I always ask. If they are buying over $100 worth of stuff, I ask. Some customers get REALLY upset when I ask for their ID, but when I explain that I ask b/c i wouldnt want to see them be a victim of ID theft, they are usually cool with it. When someone still refuses to show me ID, I generally ask them for another form of payment (which I can do, btw).
This whole thing is one reason why I like shopping at best buy... they ALWAYS ask for ID. (I usually have it ready anyway). Although it is funny when I sign my credit card slip "John Doe" (my real name is much longer), and they dont ask for ID.
One thing that has always gotten me tho is how people interpret me asking for ID. I actually had one guy accuse me of being racist. I'm white, and he wasnt, and the guy before him bought a $25 item, and was totally comfortable giving me the card. This guy was buying a $150 item, and fumbled around for a minute getting his card... after switching cards. I wasnt sure whether I should have laughed, or been insulted. That day was *certainly* interesting!

				man, ^_^ I'm weary about using my card. I've used it over the phone 3 times, and not at all on the internet. Countless times in person. ^_^ ID always ready, not always required. Checks have been rare. ^_^;
then again my average perchase is 50 bucks and down. ^_^;;

				Hmmm I've used my credit card countless times over the internet over the last 5+ years with no problems ever arising. Also have never been asked for my ID when using it in person. Might be the more trusting and less crime-ridden Mid-West area I live in (FYI - despite location Chicago & St Louis might as well be in the heart of Manhattan as far as trusting and crime-free-areas are concerned)
