Would you if you could?

Postby Coltess » Thu Jul 17, 2003 9:59 pm

I just watched the comercial/video for the new Power Mac G5, and I am still drooling. Unfortunately they left out the most important bit (to us) which is of course how well it runs games, more specifically AO (just pretend it had been ported to Mac).

What I wanted to know is that if you could afford it, would you buy a Mac G5 instead of a similarly priced Wintel system? Apple OS X is at least as stable (if not more so) than Win XP from what I have heard, and the graphics cards are the same. Asside from games I believe you can get all the same or similar software as for windows.

I must admit that I am a closet Apple fan, but unfortunately I am to broke to come out of the closet :wink:

I prefer to have my computers use windows (which has never glitched for me) and be custom built for my obsessions. The apple sounds powerful yes, but I can't stand apple.

Never ever Mr. Billy Apple. I don't care if no one would find out. I just can't. *cries* :twisted:

You must be the luckiest person I have ever heard of! I assume that by glitched you mean a major failure of windows and not just a blue-screen, but still.

My history with windows:

Windows 3.1 - Computer has died
Windows 95 - Blue Screen of Death Loop
Windows 98 - Blue Screen of Death Hell
Windows 2000 - BLUE SCREEN OF SYSTEM FREEZE (I broke Windows 2000 by just puttingin a cd... yeah)
Windows XP - System has slowed down to a crawl many times, for what reason I am still unsure.

3.1 = never a single problem
95= never a single problem
98= a blue screen once or twice, but never anything serious
XP= never a single problem

I guess I'm lucky, judging by the stream of smiley faces staring at me in shock. lol

who did I sell my soul to?

well, there was this one hot babe. she was all clad in leather, and had a whip, and she was driving a sea shell harley. I immediately begged her to discipline me, and she said "no, but I'll gladly eliminate all problems you'll have with microsoft programs". I was disappointed, but you can't argue with a woman who has a whip.

Aphrodite, you cruel strange woman.

Hummm... does she do discount soul sellings? I know plenty of GSP people who have souls who really don't need them, and I wouldn't mind putting their souls up to fix all of my microsoft issues.

Hey Lazy, nice to see someone who dont' messup their system :)

Ditto with me.

C64 with Basic no issues. (gone thru 3 hardwares tough :P
Amiga with AmigaOS (and even ran a PC emulator once :P no issues.
MSDOS no issues,
Win95R2 no real issues.
Win98SE pretty stable.
WinXPPro no issues.

By no issues I mean in normal daily use.
I have crashed C64, Amiga, MSDOS, Win85 Win98 and XP several times.
But usually to me either coding/programming something and that goes haywire or bugs appear.
OR I'm changing hardware drivers, or fiddling with the actual hardware.
Or flashing/replacing motherboard or gfxcard etc bios/rom etc.
(and trying to hack aroundin Windows registry wiped out my system once due to messing with the core of the system settings lol)

But in normal use? nah no issues really...
*looks at his XP right now* ooh 6 days and 2hrs uptime since last reboot which was a gfx card driver update. sweet.
(pretty average for me, I tweak my system just about once a week, or I experiment forcing a reboot :P
My system hasn't been reinstalled since um... a year ago. (or was it a year and a half, I loose track lol)
And since that last reinstall (only had 2 or 3, both was a few months after I bought and built my pc)

Since the last reinstall, I've installed and uninstalled and reinstalled houndreds of programs, had a ad/spyware attack. (some scars left still tough from my scalpel hehehe :P
Changed my gfx card, changed my dvd-rom with a dvd+rw burner, added a tv-card, added a 2nd hard drive.

Altough, if I COULD chooce (and run all current soft) I'd move back to ol AmigaOS best darn OS there ever was...
:P
