The Matrix Online Game...how will they do it!

Seriously, I mean the concept is amazing, something to bash EQ and the rest out of the water, but how they play it will be incomprehencible, and downright hard to imagine...

Will we all be humans? Maybe let people be subordinates to Agents, weaker ones? (Like the "Older" versions that the French guy implied to his use in the matrix Reloaded)?

Bullettime?

What is known is to skimp on the details, there will be no "Real world game", thus, no fighting the weird tentacle androids or Zion.

All characters are plugged into a hovercraft at broadcasting altitude, and "live" in the matrix.

The timezone of it happeneing is after the Matrix Revolution.

Can I be the one?

Maybe you should ask the Oracle this question.

Like the jedis in SWG, but singular, there just might be a person to be the chosen Messiah, like Neo. This is just my thought alone, but its entirely possible and feasable.

It means anyone could, in a sense, maybe after a quest, maybe just randomly done...

Yes Tarryk, you could be Neo. Yes Otori, you too. Lauri could, or
Katieblu<[Ichy wanna be trinity, ICHY WANNA BE TRINITY!]> could.

Nobody could, it could be someone who does a half-assed job, or does it perfectly. Could be anyone who plays it, in a sense.

*This is all my thoughts and not confirmed*

Firia...you cannot.

Your already the Pirate Queen and thats a damned better title than some cheap guy or girl playing in god mode!

ARRG! Tis True Maties and lassies! Firia is the Pirate Queen of the matrix, who can kick the Chosen ones pasty ass! :P

Back on topic...

I wonder how, if at all, Bullettime will be done, as well as other things, but it looks great, and I will be sure to give it a try.

===============================================

Breaking....weird, news.

Bulletime WILL BE USED!

I REPEAT! BULLETTIME WILL BE USED!!!

How, I am at a freaking loss for.

"Bullettime?"

Nope won't be any bullet time, only few are skilled enough. (agents, heroes of the movies etc.)

"What is known is to skimp on the details, there will be no "Real world game", thus, no fighting the weird tentacle androids or Zion. "

Think your def right about that!

"All characters are plugged into a hovercraft at broadcasting altitude, and "live" in the matrix. "

Possibly, but most likely your in a clonetank/lifesupport tank, oblivious to it all.

"The timezone of it happeneing is after the Matrix Revolution. "

Most likely!

"Can I be the one?
Maybe you should ask the Oracle this question. "

No you can't, not even in the Animatrix did the bro's allow "The runner" to awaken (they wanted him to fail if not he'd be too close to Neo/The One).
Oracle, hmm I think the oracle may be there, just look out for a apologetic asian guy at the door lol.

"Bulletime WILL BE USED!
I REPEAT! BULLETTIME WILL BE USED!!!"

Freaky indeed!
Hmm!
Some fights. (if either side has enough energy to perform bullet time)
will trigger it. Both will see it, it will be like playing in slow mo,
but the one actually using/triggering/being dominant in the "Focus"
as it's called, will avoid/dodge more or totally anything the opnonent throws at him.
The loosing part will see the joy of himself struck by items in slow motion.

NOTE! These are just my views on this so far.
I think more than anything else, they just wanna recreate the environment/feel of the movies. Not necesserily a replica,
nor create x billion Neos etc. nor Agents.
Any Neo's or Agents will most likely be npc or GM controlled.

But just because your the average joe schmo doesn't mean the experience wont' kick ass.

(same with SWG. few (well none so far are Jedi) still people enjoy SWG I hear so... heh that myth killed right there.

Okay, lemme just say the Matrix Online game is more like Matrix 4 than anything else, which means that we would have to finish watching matrix 3 (which hasn't been released yet), as for as we all know we're just waiting on some brain hemorage of some type.

But also add this, think about it, yes you cannot enter the "Real World" and have "Bullet Time" but don't discount the validity of the game or what it is going to present. Maybe it's a pre version or maybe when the game is released everyone, machine/human are compeltely and untimately plugged into the system...

Or maybe I'm completely wrong, screwed and going to it anyway because I'm a fanboy.

I hate to say it, but I don't see what would be so fun about this game. I mean, call me a jaded MMOG gamer who has had his heart ripped out so many times that he lacks the ability to be impressed or not be too critical but.....

I begin, I customize my character. wow I'm unique. time to get a gun. cool. now to hunt the enemy. bum bum bum... hunting... bum bum bum..... time to shoot some police officers... die die die..

*starts to run*

oh no, now I've attracted a swarm.. eek. time to unplug. oh wait, I can't. eek, a agent. only a bad actor can kill these guys. have to run away. eek eek eek.

*gets away*

well, that was fun. I made level 2. time to boost my skills and buy a new pistol and some cool clothes....

I don't see the point though. You can't get out of the matrix, nothing you do has any effect on the matrix, and you end up just playing a regular MMORPG in a different setting. Even bullet time won't help too much, and i just am not impressed by it. Max Payne has bullet time, Bloodrayne has bullet time, AO has bullet time when you start to lag.

does this game have anything new and revolutionary in it other then the setting, which is itself just another sci fi rehash of a old story.

Zion does not exist in the real world. It is a second Matrix.

Comedy Comment: Yes and when I usually go into bullet time I DIE on AO!

Real Comment: How about their mission system. If I pull a mission and I'm on the "good" side the same exact mission on the "bad" side is spawned for them to try and stop me... okay it's only one innovation, but hey! It's a pretty good one no?

Keanu always has this slighly conflused look. He also has one acting method to express anger. ^_^;

Matrix 1 was the role he was BORN to play. Why? Because Keanu plays the part of a very confused and baffled man that's ever learning about "life". And even after he's learned a fair deal, he kicks to much butt to act.

I like him in that role. ^_^ I liked him in Bill and Ted('s). I wasn't fond of the REST of his movies. ;)

Tharkael, that idea wont' survive. We had that in SWG, in the form of imperial and rebel missions that both sides could participate in...

and the carebears (PVE lovers and haters of PVP) whined. they said it wasn't fair to them. they said it would take away content from them (now there isn't any content and they whine even though they destroyed combat and factions and deserve to roast in Hade's realm for all eternity... *cough* anyway...) and they got it removed.

Missions won't stay like that for long. carebears will get it removed.

Also, how would that work? I'm a police officer who can't bullet time and I'm firing at you, and you are a hacker who can do bullet time and you dodge my shots and kill me. great movie sequence no? not a great game sequence for me. If we can both bullet time then I must be a hacker.... so why am I trying to kill you in the matrix of all places? I could be logged off and stabbing you in the head and you'd have no chance of defending yourself...

Now maybe if you had some missions like that and the rest as solo that would be okay, but then it is just AO style missioning with a added "AO mission with human enemies instead of npcs" feature.

and I apoligize for being such a jerk about this. I am a tad jaded.

Heh...speaking of whining...

anyway...

Matrix Online has some obvious potential, but since we only have conjecture beyond what little info was released...

Bullet-time in PVE is easy. max-payne style. The world slows down, including you, but many of your actions (such as rate of fire and speed of special moves) are sped up to compensate.

Bullet-time in PVP is just as easy. It's a special ability, used once and then locked for a time (or like Max Payne, you have a bar that moves downward as you use it). During the time that you are using it, all beings within a certain radius from you slow down, but only you (and your teammates if you have an upgraded Bullettime skill) can gain the added advantage of standard rate-of-fire, slightly increased mobility thru the time soup, and quicker reload time and special move abilities.

As for missioning, PVE, PVP and the like....they'll likely try to round it off to make things as balanced as possible. And they'll likely fail at first and scramble thru the usual nerfing/buffing process to even things out.

RPers will bitch about the I'm-So-Uber-And-You're-a-lame-carebear types. PVPers will bitch about the Woe-is-me-we-need-content carebears. PVEers will bitch that their bullettime skill is nerfed and how it's impossible to be The One.

The rest of us who just enjoy playing MMOs for the sake of doing so, we'll just play it. If we like it, we'll play it a while. If it's a bit pooched but has good potential we'll stick around and let the developers do their magic to see how it turns out. If it's a disgustingly horrid game that is geared in the absolute opposite direction of the casual-but-addicted MMOGer (and if it's anything like SWG), then we'll leave and go play something else. Contrary to popular belief, it really is that easy.

The rest of you have fun giving yourselves heart attacks over something that is entirely your choice to play, yet you don't ever seem to realize that fact. :)

I have to wonder and ask, how is online bullet time supposed to work?

Reading Tarryk's post (and yes I caught on with the "about whining" comment. so I whine about SWG a bit too much... :P ) the concept of including that in a active game many people play seemed a tad hard to implement.

I activate bullet time and things slow down, however unlike the movie I'm not moving superfast... rather all my actions are the same in speed and the planet is slowed down graphically to make it look like I'm moving fast. Yet the non bullet time guy would just see me doing what? floating in the air, or moving like a speed daemon? would bullet time have to be like a nano buff to your speed?

oh enough about this. I'm going to take heed of Tarryk's notable quotable and just chill. ;P

I'm pretty curious myself about how that'd work out. But if they can make it work, sweet. ^_^
