No Sunday Night Solace or Lunar Eclipse this week. :(

I'm having rather serious rig issues.

Alright, so.. I came home.. Powered it up... Ran AO for a bit... Got a random reboot.. Tried it again.. got a bluesceen.. Figured it had to do with the new Detonators I installed last night.. Removed them, rebooted.. Installed the previous drivers... Still getting bluescreens and such.. Tried some other apps to make certain it wasn't just AO, and after one of the reboots it decided it didn't want to POST anymore.. Or just randomly when it feels like it.. When I can get it to POST, if it decides it wants to see the keybaord... I try to go into Safe Mode and it immediately bluescreens.

After trying different sticks of DDR, a couple 40 gig HDD's I have lying around, a different motherboard and vidcard...

I did a more through examination of my vidcard. I determined my GeForce4 4600 Ti blew a capacitor (One of the capcitors had insulation coming out of the top and it was bowing out..) and took my AGP slot with it.. So.. $522.27 later, I have a Radeon 9700 Pro Sapphire Ultimate and an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe due in on Tuesday.

More than likely, this is due to the fact that I had a power supply blow on me, and I simply replaced it without checking the rest of my components for damage/weakness due to irregular voltages.

Non-geek explaination:

My system blew up and I don't have the patience to wait for the parts to get repaired and returned (approx two weeks) so I ordered new, non-blown up parts and will likely be back up and running on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Okay, hummm this does seem serious, although depending on where you got it from you could have gotten a replacement (say a retail store would have given you a replacement)

I never buy ANYTHING retail.. :p But I've already packed up the blown parts and have RMA numbers.. It just takes forever to get replacements.. :p So I'll have some MORE extra high-end hardware lying about doing not much of anything.. :p

I'm happy he posted the Non-geek version. There's always someone like me that knows JACK bout computers. While I reconised that the geeky version was bad, I didn't quite grasp the whole of it.

Oddly enough, Computer-go-boom does it for me.

But damn man! I totally dig your solice nights. This is tres major suckage. Good luck with the new parts. ^^

Buying things from retail iz da suxxorz. Always buy online if you can (WAY cheaper most times) Half the time...retail aholes will give you way more greif trying to return a part...where as a online ordering company will take it no questions.

Okay maybe it's me or it's just I live in New York City, but I've never had a problem buying from retail. I usually though go to compusa or J&R they are the best and I get warrantee service so if they want to give me any sh*t I just shove that warrantee card and the recept up their ass. or call the BBB.

...and see.. I'll take the little extra hassle when something goes wrong over paying $150+ more per component...

Case in point.. Recently picked up a set of Logitech Z-680's

Best Buy's price: $399.99
YesMicro's price: $266.95

Now... Take into account tax and shipping:

Best Buy: $399.95 + %5.5 sales tax = 421.95
YesMicro: $266.95 + $20.70 UPS ground shipping (which arrived in two days) = $287.65

Leaves a difference of $134.30 that I saved by going online.

Yes, this is an unusual, but not overly uncommon case. This is why I shop for components online.

Okay I guess I see your point. Although the cheapest (and more problemmatic) is that through Ebay... *shudder*
