(Listein to talk Deviant, Metalynx and Tarryk started up about the people named "Fixerman!" "Traderjoe!" "Docman" and all those unoriginal, dumbass names that plague anarchy and others.

Anyone else see these people who cant even come up with a original name or make you laugh at their name?

I swear i see any Soldier___,Fix____,Vegeta,Gohan,Trunks, SSJ_____, or anything after some person or thing, im gunna go atrox-psycho on them.

I tend to smack those people verbally.

I had to group with a guy once named Docktordewdguy or something screwed up like that. Luckily, he had just been in a tower raid and was free for the plucking, heh heh heh...

As a general rule, if a name could be the name of a boss in a Megaman/Rockman game, then it isn't very good.

I must confess that my first AO character, named TengumanEXE, was a Soldier...

Well, I had an engie(when I was new, and just messing with classes) who named bots after those bosses...but usually ones like Forte. Then I started naming them after a few anime mechs...a handful of people recognized them, too. If it's an obscure reference, I like it. Hell don't think I have any "truely" original names. But they're always like, really obscure, or hard to find the origins of. If it's something obvious, it's a little questionable...

"Hey wait, wasn't Akagiyama 23 from something...?"

I totally agree that some names should be filtered out, but really it does let you identify who the power gamers are quite easily not to mention avoid them in groups as they are usually more trouble then they are worth.

I have seen Gohan, Gooku (spelled wrong intentionally I am sure cause the original was already taken), and a whole list of other mind numbing names...

I myself have an Engie named Viray and a Fixer named Nayan... Now Viray is an italian name that I happen to here and adore... Nayan was a name I made up looking at a bottle of Naya an just adding an N. *shrugs* Sounds original to me...

I do agree with you all to some degree as lousy names like PhixxorGridd00d makes me want to reach out and strangle somone. HOWEVER please remember that people think differently and a guy who found naming his char Asexyguy hillarious might actually be a nice person (even though I don't agree with his sense of humour).

So even though I laughed at Metalynx's rant about bad naming it also left me with a bad taste in my mouth, as I know several good roleplayers with bad names. Why do they have bad names? They made the char as a joke, never intended it to be their main. They had some wierd idea when they first made a char.. and only later realised that it didn't fit in. They didn't care as the chars first name was Steve anyway and the nick was just a bad joke from the chars friends. Thousands of different reasons, so judging a person by his name is like calling every dog black. It's just plain wrong.

Now, my rant is over, you can go back to having fun. I'll be monitoring the quality of it at our science station

This would be VERY hillarious take for instance a wedding.

well, most of my char names/nicks are from
books i like, but most r not the name of the main figure.
who knows from what books those names r?

Paying hommage to chars in books/movies you liked isn't so bad imo.
I do agree with Metalynx that saya fixer named something with fixer is bad taste tough.

And those peeps that find the name they wanted taken suddenly change a letter or so (throws up) or adds a *Shudder* number etc to it.

Naming your pets silly things is a bit more ok tough as well bot owners has a odd sense of humor

but seeing stuff like Dinoba then later seeinga guy named D1noba makes me wanna strangle someone indeed

Actually Sharoone I agree. I have met quite a few peopel with silly or odd names that were excellent people.


I was merely raggin ont he people who have said names with class or racial names in them (Fixerdood, Atroxguy etc) who are obviously experienced players (meaning they are a Alt made by a player hwo got tirted of theri lvl 190 Uber dood). They make the Character as somethign to twink out..and they give little though in theri name becasue they dont care.

Frankly it makes me sick when I see a character named that way and I tend to react harshly to them unless they can show a minor amount of intellegence....hence this example:

(note: the above conversation ACTUALLY happened. I took a instant dislike to him from his name..but did not actually insult him. If anyhting I felt I ahd a rather cool temper thoughout the whole conversation. WEhat I didnt like was te fact he kept it in tells..and had caps on the whole time. Sorry to say...90% of the psople with a name with a class part in it (traderdood, Cratman etc) that I ahve met were powerlevelers...ones that 3 days alter they are 75 levels higher..)

Okay. Fikksit falls into this category to some extent, but there's a reason for it!

It started with the first character I didn't reroll at lvl 10. Smakkit the MA. Then came Hakkit the Enforcer, Stikkit the Doc, Mekkit the Engineer... For a time I was known as *kkit.
Then one day I decided to do a fixer and this was the best I could think of.
Turns out being a fixer rocks! Fikksit is now my main, I rerolled Smakkit and deleted most of the other *kkit's

I'm stuck with Fikksit. I do resent being called a phixx0r. I'm not Uber. I can barely do 50% missions. I *had* a GA2 crystal but I gave it away because I think it looks STUPID! If that doesn't prove my integrity and excuse the name then feel free to point at me and call me names.

I was contemplating Gridninja for my fixer.

...luckily, the nickname terminal objected, so nobody except those who know me or read the RP boards will ever know...

Fix my boy...I could care less the reason for the name. Youve proven that you have a brain (and actually use it...rather than use it to just crunch numbers to maek the uber fixer).

Dont get bent out of shape. like I said..90% of the peeps with names liek that have a calculator next to theri puter...and CLicksaver...and Nano Nanny..and a dozen web pages that they can goto to get the latest on how to twink theri character. They hardley ever care about actually talkig to people. THAT is the real reason I dislike them. GO out and find one of these people. Try to engage in a conversation with one (avoid such things as latest spawn times in Tara or drop places for GA).

See how long it takes for them to engage in leet speak...or HOW MANY TIMES THEY TALK IN CAPS OR SHOUT IN VICINITY BECASUE THEY ARE TOO LAZY!!.

(shrugs) maybe Im biased. Wulfven might agree with me..I looked at AO like the old table top game Shadowrun...a future game with technology and magic. People had a handle they used (not theri real name) often the handle was rathcer catchy or something related to theri occupation...but most peope who used handles like "UberDoowd" or "Bashyou" were laughed at and not taken seriously.
