One day... I found AO.

Postby Nurgle » Thu Dec 05, 2002 6:13 pm

About 3 weeks ago I was playing a game called Neocron... and a lot of people on their forums mention AO... some said Neocron was better, some said it was just different, and some said that it was not as good.

Now I have played the granddaddy of MMORPGs UO for about 6 months, and well PvP there drove me NUTS. I gave up UO and went to StarCraft... this ruined my college career (well it helped ;) ) and Counter-Strike.

But still I craved human interaction and an ability to roleplay and meet online friends.

So I turned to EQ (about a month and got so bored my skull almost split open), I pulled a 30 day trial of Asheron's Call with about the same results. I was about to give it up again when I found Dark Age of Camelot, and well that game was fun, about a years worth of play time and I had stormed castles and over thrown guilds control of Frontier areas... it was a blast, but it wasn't Sci-Fi the genre that I truly craved.

So enter Neocron, and don't get me wrong NC was fun, beta was a blast and well it was BladeRunner-esque. But it lacked something... gameplay was there, a shade of content, and decent yet still dated graphics. In the end the largest thing that caused me not to pursue that game was just the lack of content. PvP was there in a abstract form but thats all the game offered was PvP... I am not a hardcore PvPer so this wasn't a great hook for me.

I then I hear about AO... the only reason I had skipped AO was a good friend told me it was unplayable and wouldn't be around in about 6 months. Imagine my surprise when I find not only is it still around, but the community is BOOMING with life... RP and Power Gamers alike are every where!

So I download, I sign up... and I spend the next 10 hours in heaven. I am assaulted with content and graphics before I even get to the faction of my choice. Then finally in game I am awestruck with the skills, maps, invetory and in game help. So I begin to explore... I am staring at junk, following higher level players around looking at armor, outfits, buildings... I crest a hill and have a view that stretches to an endless horizon and the two moons of Rubi-Ka set low in the sky...

I feel... at home. Strange and weird sounding I know... but still very true.

Then by wandering and exploring, running a few missions in Holes in the Wall, I eventually end up in Reets Retreat... I wander in to find a good 20 - 30 people rockin out in the dance club talkin about a DJ... I look around... I don't see a DJ... finally I send someone a tell, and I am told of Grid Stream productions. I have to tell you I am damn impressed and very greatful. I tune in at work everyday now, and I have Lance Orbin Gridfeed rocking out right now...

I have to say thank you. For putting this all together and for keeping the community alive like it is...

The name is Viray, I am now a member of The Elite Academy and I am loving every minute of AO... And that good friend of mine... I plan to beat him with a large stick, or maybe a baseball bat... ;)

P.S> I know I am a long winded bastard but hey I had a lot to say :D

Welcome to the transcendant vibe that is Gridstream Productions! Please keep your arms and legs inside the Grid at all times.

These guys (and girls, gotta give props to tV and Trist) rock. I've yet to hear a DJ that I didn't like. They all pretty much take requests of any genre... I'm waiting to see if I can get Tarryk to play my only favorite country song...

Anyhow, the T-a-double r-y-k should be along here sooner or later to give you mad welcome props.

Welcome to the ride, amigo!

h0000t Welcome to the forums and thanks for the pr0pz! I agree with you, AO may have a smaller player base than some of those other MMOs out there, but the regulars we have are dedicated to the cause of living life on Rubi-Ka to it's fullest! (and damn, the Notum Wars tower-battles are kickin' some serious ass!)

Anyhoo, thanks for listening and supporting us, Nurgle! Any chance of you bringin' Tzeentch and Slaanesh along to the party? *grins*

Heh, I was in UO for 3 years...I don't jump boats easily, as you can tell. But they managed to screw things up enough that I finally did, and decided to go for something completely different. The conclusion? Yeah, AO owns. So far I've convinced 3 people from my regular irc chat to at least try it...one person's signed up, the other is waiting on Ragnarok Online, and the last hasn't even played yet, but he's already sure he'll be addicted.

Funny thing is, the one who's signed up told me 10 minutes after he downloaded it just what all he did in EQ...seems he was a bit of a griefer. I was a bit troubled, but as soon as I saw him in-game, I knew AO had cleansed his evil ways. ...uh, or something. I think it's just something about the game itself that makes people act right. Probably the game's just so content-filled that it demands everyone's respect, even the biggest griefers...

Actually Tzeentch rarely comes out to play something about destorying the human race in a mad plot or scheme... never stops talking about some Bush fellow being the key ;)

Slaanesh on the other hand visited Neverland Ranch sometime ago and has never returned... I can only assume a darker much more sinister force

Noctum Wars is a hunt I tell ya, I will own it soon however... no matter what it takes...

Thanx for the warm and fuzzy welcomes also!

you may have been lucky you started so "late" with aO. the start was indeed bumpy. and it wasnt until the first year had passed that AO started to really show how great potential it actually has...

AO is like the ugly duckling, slowly turning into a swan as time goes by.

In a few years.. when you look back you'll curse this day. The day you lost what is commonly refered to as Real Life.

Welcome to Rubi-ka! ^_^ Be sure to tune in at every waking moment to GSP. Esspecially at the very least 3pm EST on sunday as DJ Tarryk and Metalynx give you the skinny on life on Rubi-ka.

No, I'm not an employe of GSP, I'm just a listener.

I'm sadly offworld, but I still feel as close to Rubi-ka as the day the lands lush grass bent under my boots, if not more in tune. ^_^ GSP keeps you closely in tune with the fine workings of Rubi-ka!

Welcome! ^_^
