Where are they? Do I have to hunt you down and pummel you to get you to post them for me?

You see problem is, most software that is uptodate/modern is commercial.

OK...it seems i dont have near the amount of talent it takes to use these programs and produce something pleasing to the ear O_o

How did you all get so good at this?

Ya know, the same way most programmers learn how to code.

I tried to get into this a long time ago, kind of just let it go at some point. I think I'll download that free one and give it a shot sometime this weekend.

Yup, but you have to really be into it. I've learned that taking weekends to see if I can figure out some new obscure software or prog language never works.

It took me a long time to master BASIC back in my C64 days, and I only learned it because I kept writing programs with it, and kept being thrilled that everything I wrote was one step cooler than the last thing.

And that's how it's been with music. I loved the first piece I ever wrote with Scream Tracker way back in the DOS days, and I tried to improve on every piece since then, learning new trackers as I went.

The desire to produce something has to be the chief driving force. You have to actually try and create with it, otherwise you won't have the will to keep learning it.

For example, the song "Animosity" with Karma Inquisition and Epicine is my first-ever piece written with Acid DJ Pro software. In a few weeks, I'll look back at it and probably think that it sucks, because I'm still learning new things about the software every day while I'm working on the next song(s).

My first attempt was on a TRS80, I was so disgusted by my ineptness that I gave up on it for a long time. I tried to get into it again when a friend of mine showed me his setup on one of my trips home from the army. I didn't have a computer at the time and when I did get one, I was more interested in trying to code my own MUD.

Kinda odd, I'd totally forgotten about what I was working on in MUD code when I finally quit MUDding and went to UO. I was trying to make sound files and music stored locally trigger off of the combat code.

I thought for a moment about downloading one of these, the free one most likely, but I realized that my lack of technical skill would most likely send me screaming into the night if I even tried it. I will stick to singing in the shower.

Im toying around with the demo of fruityloops 3 right now, and half considering purchasing the program, as things are starting to sound a BIT better as I learn more about the program.

I think i'm gonna check out the ACID Techno 3.0 demo when I get home from work today. It looks impressive, and I definitely wouldn't mind paying the 30 bucks to register if it's as good as it looks.

If it's anything like ACID DJ (which I'm sure it's probably nearly identical), then it definitely gets my thumbs-up.

The comparison chart with the ACID Xpress and ACID Pro actually only has one column in the middle with ACID DJ/Techno showing all the same specifications.

Thanks for all your help ya'll. when i decide on a program, i think ill ask for the full version for christmas from my grandparents or whatnot -- hopefully i can have something cool out soon for you all to tell me how it is

I've used Rebirth it's a Rolland 303 and 808 machine combined in software (at least the version I had a few years ago) Should be way better by now.

Of course, I didn't pay for it :p but then again, I never really used it to produce anything.
