Just an FYI The Marriott Marquis will be taking reservations beginning October 3, 2011 I recommend, if you plan to stay there, reserving a early as possible even if you aren't sure you can make t. The hotel was completely booked and on the busies day of the con there were approx 45,000 people If anyone has info on rooms elsewhere feel free to post.

This is the information they gave out at the Hyatt:
Reservations for next year's DragonCon will open on October 17, 2011 at 9:00 am!
In order to better facilitate the reservations process, we have arraged a personalized website for you to reserve your room.
Please go to the following link to make your reservations.
https://resweb.passkey.com/go/DragonCon2012
My suggestion is for anyone interested in staying at they Hyatt to try that link several times once we get into October. That date may change. My second suggestion is that provided that date stays in effect, you'll want to be sure to get there at 9:00. It will not be easier to wait until later.

Having wandered around town on the Monday and Tuesday, I was quite surprised to discover how many other hotels are within a short walk of the Hyatt, Marriot and Sheraton.
It's certainly worth considering a non-convention hotel if you're on a tighter budget. Or of course, room sharing.

That's true. Also they run a shuttle that between all of the host hotels and overflow hotels. I've not actually tried them out to be honest. I did however go to the closing ceremonies this year and a question of shuttle signage and schedules was brought up. They did say that they know this is a concern and they are going to improve it for next time.
Oh and just as an FYI particularly if you've been in the past: the new barcode system that they put in place for badges this year was the best idea ever. Personally I was through the badge line in 50 minutes, which I thought was outstanding. However, Doc, Sarah, Ickk, and Brat were through in a matter of minutes.

Most pics are on Facebook. Here are a few from my photobucket though...

In an ironic twist, I found out today that on the year that I have decided that I can't even attempt to go to DragonCon, Atlanta has finally decided to lift its ban on Sunday alcohol sales. *cries*
