so by Dec 5th Michigan stores can no longer sell Four Loko, Joose, Sparks, etc....

wtfh... talk about a stupid assinine ban.... they banning Rum & Coke? Redbull and Jaegermister.... IRISH COFFEE!!! i mean really... michigan liquor commission voted to ban it... 2 to 1.... wait... 3 people voted on this ban.... are you effin kiddin me... 3 people just made a decision for a whole state?

but... are they really that stupid.. i mean all you do is buy a regular energy drink and mix it with fave poison anyways... *gasp* i swear this state has nothing better to do than piss people off... (im a fan of sparks, energy drink with 8% alc/vol not that strong, i can mix stronger with energy drinks if i want to) im getting sick of the government being a nanny state... punish the whole to protect the few idiots.... I say we need to just let Darwin's Law come back into play... put some chlorine in the gene pool... *sigh*

Whats next? bannin french fries to protect the fat people from getting fatter?? When will it end, since the flood gate is now open what else will they ban to "protect us"

I think the opposition should be more of the packaging of said drinks, perhaps if they were in a glass bottle to look more like a a bottle of beer it would be better. I haven't read anything about this until now so I'm not sure what the arguments are, but it would pretty easy as a minor to walk around drinking some of these or even managing to easily buy from a clerk who didn't realize it was alcoholic because it looked like a can of pop (soda).

On the other hand, if someone could make a really awesome Jack and Coke in a can I'd be in heaven. It would have to be properly done, though, not like that Blackjack or whatever it is that Jack Daniels makes, weak and tastes horrible.

The whole clove argument is funny to me, as the new "cigar" cloves are made with MUCH better quality tobacco which is why it tastes different, granted I am a pipe smoker which is also a higher quality of tobacco as well so maybe that's why I haven't noticed the taste change.

As for banning Caffeine/Alcohol combo drinks, I can understand the packaging part, that's actually good reason to atleast make them change the package, other than that, wtf.

Leave it to California to "take the cake" or in this case Happy Meals...

Basically CA. Banned Happy Meal toys/meals because it was making kids fat. But it is the PARENTS responsibility to determine what foods kids can and cannot eat, not the state nor gov. in my opinion.

What I took away from that article Chai, was that Eateries are no longer allowed to give toys away with meals unless they meet certain requirements, not that the parents aren't fit enough to make choices. They can still get Happy Meals, they just won't get a toy with it. Parents aren't being told they can't eat certain things, it's telling the eateries they can't target advertising specifically at children or reward children for eating unhealthy.

Everything in moderation. I get what you're saying Drex, but I still say this is a decision for the parents.

I got my kid any number of Happy Meals and I would be hard pressed to figure whether the attraction for him was the toy or the food. I would say it was close to equal. As far as I was concerned, he got to eat and he got a toy without breaking the bank in the process. Win/Win in my book. But that doesn't mean that I took him to McDonald's ever day or that he got every Happy Meal toy to come along. He didn't. Parents have to learn how to tell their kids "no". Kids require boundaries and it is not up to the government to do that for you.

Childhood obesity is an issue in this country. However, taking the "happy" out of the Happy Meal isn't the way to solve that problem.



As to the OP, I can't comment much on that. In Delaware liquor can only be sold in a liquor store so there would be no real issue (outside of fake ID's) with kids fooling the clerk into letting them by those types of drinks.

The thing with the happy meal stuff, it is targeted at the parents that DON'T use McDonalds as a "treat". But in turn it is essentially telling you that you cannot have a happy meal unless it is healthy. Mcdonalds is NOT a health food place, was never meant as such, but people are too dumb to control what they eat, people these days have no self responsibility. This is all mostly in my opinion. But seriously, taking a toy out of a meal is bs. It is just the first baby steps into the country becoming more of a nanny state.

Very true, my girls hardly ever ate the food there. We would go there for the soft serve icecream just so they could play on the huge tube maze the place had. It was awesome and gave me some rest and them a way to burn off energy on the cheep when it was crappy weather out.

I have to admit I miss the fries just a little though. lol

But eating out like that should never be the norm when you have kids. Its not healthy and rather bad parenting in my opinion. You can go get some awesomely easy oven dinners out of the freezer section that are much better for your kids then fastfood. Eating fast food every day is just outright lazy .... and expensive.

Aye, I smoke cigars and pipes as well.. the tobacco of a clove "cigar" might be higher quality, but it's not the same. Ya know? Think new Coke. What we liked about clove cigarettes just aren't there in clove "cigars". Which is why I import the real thing. Le sigh. ;_;
