I'm a huge fan of TLJ. Same as Drex, once every year or two I need to play thru it. Dreamfall was outstanding as well.

I am a fan. I had not played The Longest Journey until GSP (or was it funcom?) sent me the game. I seem to get easily addicted to anything Ragnar Tørnquist writes so it's no big surprise that I own both titles and replay them every year and a half or so.

I got a box set that came with Dreamfall and TLJ on a DVD. Before, I had tried buying a stand alone copy of TLJ on a CD but it didn't work too well in Windows XP, install always failed. I haven't gotten too far into TLJ as of yet, but I do pick it up every now and then.

Yeah the original TLJ didn't work too well with xp, but funcom recently released one that does, and it's available for download now from the funcom site. I think it's 10 bucks for the download. Definitely worth it if you haven't played.

It's also fun as you're playing to listen for certain sounds in the game that were carried over into AO, and see if you can identify where they ended up.

PS if you have an old version, install it, then right-click on the shortcut and go into Compatibility frame, and run it with win95 compatibility. Worked for me.

I was logging in to ask if anyone had got it working with Windows 7, and this fixed it. Thanks Tarryk.

No prob, glad to help! I don't know about Windows 7, but in XP there are other things in the compatibility window that it's a good idea to check off. Like disabling extra funky service whatzits and decomfrobulate the textings. Whatever, it's basically a bunch of windows functions that it would disallow to be active while the game is running (to prevent you from hitting a key combination that would crash the game when it tries to run that function).

Ok, for whatever reason I never played TLJ. However, this thread brought it to mind and finally over the weekend I plunked down my 10 bucks for the download.

I'm hooked.

Last night I had every intention of just playing for "about an hour" and then logging on for Ickk's show. Four and a half hours later I was convincing myself to quit and go to bed.

As a fan of The Secret World, I thought I already loved Ragnar Tornquist. Now I know that I am hopelessly in love with him. TLJ rocks! I love the story. The dialog can be time consuming to get through but I find myself reluctant to click past it because it is so engaging. It is just so well done and it is really hard to believe that it is as old as it is. I'm not sure if it is a compliment or a criticism, but the game itself is secondary to the story. I think it really has become a means of progressing the story for me rather than my focus. Of course that could explain why I have missed some things and had to go back for them (monkey eye!!! *shakes fist at sky*).

I love April Ryan and I'm really looking forward to going through this journey with her.

Yeah April is very realistic and rich for a game character, it does feel very much like you are playing a good book instead of a video game. It's very worth sitting thru all the dialog.
