I'm in the progress of creating a new chat client for AO, intended to replace AORC+ and others.
This post is intended to figure out what people want from a chat client.
So...
What features would you want to see in a chat client?

First of all

being able to delete permanently the Omni/Neutral/Clan Trade chanel without always having to disable them each time you launch your AO chat.

One that doesn't lock up trying to load a friends list 50 percent of the time would be a big improvement.

Well, given the way the AO server sends the friends list, that might be hard
(It sends one "Buddy update packet" for every entry in the up-to-1000-friends at a time. Also, I dont' have that many in my friends list for various chars loging on/off all the time to actually test this...)

Sounds would be good. And the option to turn them off.

What kind of sounds?

I don't know about mementh but for me personally the option to have a sound alert on tells and other specified groups when a message is sent in them. So if its a bit quite (chat wise not noise wise) you could have an alert on and minimise the program while you do something else till you here it.

Hmm.... interesting....
Not sure I'll have that in the initial release, but it's definitely something to work on for later
(btw, just got channel muting working. now to add player ignore...

)

Or instead of sounds (or both) once you send and receive a pm from someone, it could be interresting to see the name of the person lighting, you know what I mean? bipping with a very low light. Or just changing that green online/red offline button in another color wen you receive a msg from a certain person.
That way you can look at your friend/recent list to see if something is bipping or not instead of opening a received pm window to see if you missed any tells. Not sure if you understood ;p my english can be terrible.
