New Orbital Club

Coming soon:

We are currently working on a new "Orbital" apartment for the uber rich in game for a silly amount of credits, if you are a credit billionaire you should live like one. This apartment will also be available for paid points as it is a purely social content type item. At the same time we are working on concepting out a new social nightclub area in orbit as it has been a very long time since a new nightclub was added to AO...and I am sick of RKTim Picketing our offices for the opening of "Head or Tails" in omni territory. I think gathering in a new superclub in orbit would add style to our future events. The apartments are meant to be a part of the same spacestation facility...hopefully we'll see the both facilities at close to the same time. Before anyone asks this will not be in before instanced Pandemonium or Instanced cities.

Again...some of the concept art for the apartments are linked at the bottom of this post.

After instanced pande and org cities they are apparently going to open up an orbital club complex with apartments within the station.

I think that's fabulous. A new place to party and a place to crash when you're done! Awesome.

This is something I can see me saving paid points for (since I will never be uber rich).

Oh yeah, I'm gonna farm pearls til I'm sick of the stench of the Shadowlands to get one of those....Seems like I'll have plenty of time.

That popped out at me big-time. Genius money sink. IMHO, they should develop several of these, starting them out right from their launch as costing at least half a billion a pop. That could really help stabilize the economy.

It wont though, while a good idea in theory the vast majority of the people 'with money' will not spend it on something that does not help them kill more or that they could sell on a few months down the line.

Call me a cynic but I see the amount of in-game money being drained a lot less than people may think (and I'll admit, probably more than I give people credit for)

I tend to agree with Ceryn, the incredible majority the rich bastards out there are powergamers, who do not roleplay at all, do not go to any ingame spot to relax. Meaning they won't be spending insane amount of credits on a new apartment.

I think this will depend to some degree on what facilities are made available in the new apartments - features like Grid entry (obviously), banking, GMS terminal (online shopping anyone?) and an ability to instantly recall to the apartment from anywhere would make them more desirable...also make them a LOT easier to invite friends and be able to show off your phats! Introducing items that can be quested for as trophies (like in LOTRO) would be nice too) .....in essence make them worth using!

I also dont see this helping the economy at all, yes it is a cash sink - but it is an extremely high priced cash sink, which will possibly drive prices up rather than down as more people need more cash to buy this luxury item, To look at a similar item in another game - Epic mounts in WoW... the gold sellers cheered and their businesses boomed as everyone farmed their butts off to make 5k gold! Expect more of that in AO, more credit spammers, higher bot and AI armour prices, more farming for cash (although we do have the option of paid points to purchase thank god).

I think the key to cash sinkage is small amounts needed constantly - like armour/weapon repairs, not massive dumps like this that will probably drive bot and top item prices even higher.
