Lets face it we live in a world that runs on money. But when things are advertised as free I expect it to have no direct or indirect costs. This is particularly true of things Like Adobe Acrobat Reader which pretty much has to be free so that all the people who buy the pro version to make pdf documents can reach their target audiance. So imagine my surprise when d/ling adobe acrobat reader invariably required me to use a 3rd party d/l site that required signing up to a service to complete the d/l.....

Made me want to report them for fraud. Free is free. Pay is pay. This was annoying as all heck.

Also no search on Adobe Acrobat Reader ever spawned Adobe's official site. It wasn't till I searched for the company alone (IE: Adobe) That I got their sire and finally after navigating a few levels of that site found pretty much hidden and hard to find a free d/l for the reader.

All of which is curious to me because obviously PDF is becoming more and more the favored tool of web publishers. The free reader is what makes the product worth using and is in effect part of Adobe's obligation to those who do buy the pro version. Because what use is making a document that nobody can read?

Anywho thats my rant of the day.

Dear Adobe associate d/l sites that require pay services when advertising free software.

Please find enclosed a rabid ch33rl337 eager to chew on your toes.
Also enclosed 1337 hecklers to eat your office and furnishings.
Also 1 copy of the Oxford dictionary definition of free highlighted in neon pink with neon yellow arrows pointing at it.

You could give Foxit Reader a try - it's free, faster and doesn't hog your memory: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

P.S. When I logged in to post this I typed my username as 'Knowit' :D

Hi Lauri.

I've generally found that the results you get with a search vary wildly from one computer to the next. Foe some reason mine chose not to find the official Adobe site until I refined the search to just Adobe.

Hi Jairyn

Wheres the fun of ranting if people are going to confuse the issue with blindly obvious facts? I was exaggerating Something I'm prone to do when I get excited or agitated. Basically after My frustration with several pay to d/l sites anything less than a full page ad would of been an annoyance. I have since calmed down and can go back to being semi-rational rather than totally off the wall.
