Science News - Local Nuke War Would Cause World Havoc

WASHINGTON — A regional nuclear war would not only be devastating to the countries involved, it would cause havoc worldwide for at least a decade, according to a new analysis....

I find this stunning. There is more to this news story but this first sentence, hell the title alone, is enough. Note the words: "according to a new analysis". How is this new? How is it that we don't already know this? A nuclear war, even on a local level, would cause world havoc? Really?? Gosh, I had no idea. Thanks ever so much for conducting this research to let us know. We surely never would've been able to figure this out on our own.

I'm more curious...who would fund such research? and what did they do to test it...get out the sliders machine and jump to a alternate earch and start a nuke war? :P

I believe this Hypothesis needs to be tested....

*ponders* ..................... *ponders some more*..........!!

not simply NO!! ..... *EPICINE* NO!!!!!!!!

uses quote from WARGAMES
[after playing out all possible outcomes for Global Thermonuclear War]
Joshua: Greetings, Professor Falken.
Stephen Falken: Hello, Joshua.
Joshua: A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?

personal opinion; you can omit the "Global" from that quote without reducing it's accuracy.

The same muppetheads that figured that using tactical, small-yield nukes in bunkerbusters was a smart thing and wouldn't trigger much contamination, or trigger a nuclear exchange/war....

Just amazing. Idiot-research like this will never cease, and even the most respectable R&D companies will resort to it if they think it'll be a story that people will read. We asked 100 people to stab themselves with a fork, and to our amazement it caused a material known as "blood" to come out of the skin!

Another example, and I happen to love Scientific American, but to think that they would actually write a research article on this just baffles me:

Research: Why do things costs $19.95?
Uh... if I were to venture a guess without reading, I'd say "Because it looks like it's less than $20 without really being less." But then you read the article and realize that someone, somewhere, actually probably got their doctorate signed from this dumbassery. :D

I should do a study of moronic research and write a thesis about it. I could get into a prominent university! :P

Research such as this is why I believe that hypothesis should be tested.

It would solve quite a few problems to test the thesis, yep. Overpopulation, prices on land etc. Plus that you would save a fortune on power, since you wouldn't have to build any streetlamps!

Somehow I don't think that the so-called scientists behind the so-called research either know or remember the usual response to an attack done with ABC-weaponry. It's called MAD for a reason. They send you ten small ones, you answer with everything you've got. They do the same, and the world is peaceful for the next few thousand years. Eventual survivors will be too damn busy surviving to go to a new large-scale war.

Well personally I think you have to be a bit crazy to be an inventor. I am thankful for many inventions, yet I think it is why we are now trying so hard to fix what those inventions have screwed up. I also HATE THE TELEPHONE....that is one invention I wish were never ever invented and they should hang all telemarketers by the balls. If more money were spent on developing cures for illness instead of silly articles perhaps we all would lead healthier lives.

If we test this, telemarketers will no longer be an issue for you.
