Attention PS3 owners... Cast off your DualShock 2's and rejoice!

So... I imported a DualShock 3 via Play-Asia...

I'm here to tell you, that that gumball-machine-prize-quality DualShock 2 they include with the PS3 is beyond garbage....

The DS3 is EXACTLY what a PS controller should feel like. It has the heft of a PS2 Dual Shock, and rock-solid construction (the DS2 fails the 'creak test' miserably and feels like a cheap Mad Catz knockoff).

I have since tossed by DS2 back into the DS3 packaging, and it will now rot in my closet.

Just figured I'd give this friendly PSA in case anyone was on the fence.

That is all.

so.. the dual shock 3 are worth it then? do they actually vibrate like the PS2 controllers did?

They sure do... Tilt functionality isn't affected in the least, either.. flOw works great.

I think it may even be a stronger and more precise motor than the DualShocks.

Of course, there isn't much out there that takes advantage of it yet, but Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank do an admirable job. As does Stardust.

However, even if it weren't for the rumble, it'd be worth it for the build quality alone... They don't even feel as though they were manufactured by the same company.

sweet, as it is, I've felt like I was gonna twist my current controller (the one that came with the ps3) in two simply playing ncaa football. lol

hmm, it appears the US price is set to roughly 55 dollars per controller. Thats kinda steep, I may wait til I get the new GT or MGS

I'm not big on paying rediculous import costs, but to import it only cost $5 more than US MSRP.

I'd say that's a fair assessment. ;)

I'll be hanging on to my sixaxis controllers (two of them) because, while made of a cheap matterial, they are decent enough. Also, if I have company, I don't need to buy an additional controller or three, as I'll already have two sixaxis controlers on top of my one (or two) DS3 controllers. :)

Also, I'm waiting for their release in the states. I'm not super wild about vibration... in controler format (;)), but I will be investing upon their release.

It certainly wasn't the rumble that caused me to grab one.... It was the added heft I was looking for. The standard SIXAXIS just feels flimsy.

...and whilst the DS3 still does not match the heavyweight X360 controllers, it's considerably more satisfying to use over it's ghetto sibling.

There is precisely zero flex between the components of the shell. The SIXAXIS, I can deform with one hand.

Yeah, I agree that my initial transition to the sixaxis was, "this is really light." But I adapted quickly. :) Also, I don't try to mangle my expensive devices, no matter how cheaply made they may have been constructed. ;) I would recomend the same, but that is just me. :P
